A Year of Lunching in One Gigantic Photo: It was an annual end of the year tradition for Zach to post one gigantic photo of every lunch he ate all year long.  He's in Los Angeles now, so if you want to see this year's photo you'll have to check it out over on the L.A. section of the site...

Pizza snobs, you have permission to stop reading now. After all, there’s no DiFara’s, Grimaldi’s or Motorino in Midtown. Hell, there’s not even a Lombardi’s. But not eating pizza for lunch isn’t really an option for any self respecting New Yorker. So what do we do? We settle, of course! Some of us, more than others (depending on where you go, and how much you spend.) Here are the nominees for the best our favorite pizza places in Midtown:

Frites n’ Meats Under New Ownership, Promises to Improve

Frites n Meats TruckOne thing we didn’t realize when we posted our write-up of Frites N Meats earlier this month was that they were under new ownership as of October ‘10. Ali, who previously worked in the truck, and his two brothers have purchased full ownership from the famously cantankerous previous owner, Vadim Ponorovsky, and are now working on damage control – trying to repair the truck’s relationship with other vendors, and earn back goodwill from lunchers around the city. Apparently they’ve also taken the constructive feedback from the comments and forums to heart and are working to make the burgers juicier without compromising on the “natural taste and quality of the meat.” Everyone deserves a second chance, so if you pay them a visit let us know if they’re making good on their promises of improvement.

A little over three years ago Esca chef (and Profiled Midtown Lunch’er) Dave Pasternack said there’s no such thing as cheap seafood… but with a $10 price limit we don’t really have the luxury of agreeing with him. Lucky for us there are actually some great seafood dishes available for lunch in Midtown! They might not be Esca quality, but they are still some of our faves. Here are the nominees for best seafood dishes in Midtown:

Sophie’s Cuban has played second fiddle to Margon for all three years of the Midtown Lunch Reader’s Poll. So, what did they do this year? Take the fight directly to the king, that’s what- opening a new location on 45th btw. 5+6th. Will that be enough to claim victory? Or will Margon come out on top for a fourth year in a row? Here are the nominees for best Latin food in Midtown:

Is this the year that Hing Won gets dethroned as the defacto steam table Chinese food spot in Midtown?  Or will they continue their roast pig fueled reign, impaling the competition on their sharp crispy bits of pork fat?  Regardless of who wins, we can all celebrate the fact that all of the old school Chinese food steam table joints made it through another year!  (We’re looking at you Yips.)  Here are the nominees for the best Chinese fast food in Midtown:

Anthony Bourdain Tells Us Where He Likes to Lunch in Midtown

Tony Bourdain

I recently received the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do a meet and greet with the Myth, the Man, the Legend, Mr. Tony Bourdain. To say that I’m a fan of Tony would be an understatement. I’ve been a disciple of his teachings since my formative foodie years. In fact, I can point to a single instance over 7 years ago, where I sought out and tried pho for the first time because of his description of the dish in A Cook’s Tour, and from then on, I was hooked on eating, reading and writing about food. Needless to say, his writing and TV shows have heavily influenced my path towards being a “foodie” and food blogger.
