Best Burger: Five Guys

DSC05596

Once Shake Shack opened on 8th Ave. earlier this year you would have thought they would have been a shoe-in for this award.  Not so fast.  One year after being the Editor’s Pick for best burger, Five Guys takes home the big prize- ending a three year Burger Joint winning streak.  Editor’s Pick: Shake Shack “I withstood the Shake Shack hype for years, and finally tried it when the Midtown West branch opened.  I now understand the hype, and am pretty happy to wait in line (within reason) for those burgers.   And c’mon people, Five Guys is a National Chain, and not even from New York!  -Chris H.”  [View Results]

Every Friday our man UltraClay, (me!) heads south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch. Over the last year, we’ve checked out Indian, Italian, Thai, Seafood and searched out the elusive Korean Taco. Not to mention the fact that the Flatiron has been the epicenter of the food court craze. Here are the nominees for the Best Flatiron Lunches:

Everybody knows there’s no good Thai food in Midtown!  To get the good stuff you’ve got to go to the West or the South or the East (but mostly to the West).  Not everybody can make it over to 9th Ave. (or 2nd Ave., or to the Flatiron) on their lunch break, but just in case you do you’ll want to make it worthwhile, right?  Here are the nominees for the best Thai food on the fringes of (or just outside) the ML boundaries:

It was a busy year for Japanese fast food in Midtown.  We finally got our very own Seattle style teriyaki place, the Japanese trinity on 41st Street became a quartet, and a few places decided to change names.  Will any of this matter, or will Cafe Zaiya claim its fourth straight victory in this category.  Only one way to find out… here are the nominees for best Japanese fast food in Midtown:
