GlazeIf you’re in the mood for a spicy food challenge for lunch, a la Man Vs. Food, you’ll want to check out Glaze Teriyaki’s ‘Hottest’ teriyaki sauce ($1.50 suppl), which they cooked up after hearing feedback that their spicy sauce wasn’t hot enough. They took the challenge seriously, by adding a hurting of habanero and other Asian chili peppers into their homemade teriyaki sauce.

Putting Glaze Teriyaki to the Seattle Test

Please give a warm welcome to our newest contributor: Donny T. from the site Eat to Blog

Back in December, Glaze Teriyaki opened to a lot of excitement from Midtown Lunchers and teriyaki lovers. The obvious excitement came from the fact that the owner is a Seattle native, bringing what has become THE food of Seattle to NYC. Chris H. was lucky enough to try the teriyaki when it first opened and liked it a lot. But how does Glaze Teriyaki compare to the real thing?

Well, guess what? I just got back from Seattle!  Don’t mind if I do…

Your First Look at Glaze Teriyaki, Opening Weds: The New York Times is reporting that Glaze Teriyaki, the Seattle style teriyaki joint on Lexington btw. 54+55th we told you about back in October, will be opening for business on Wednesday.  Curious about what the place looks like, and the menu?  Grub Street has your first look.

Curious about the forthcoming Glaze Teriyaki, the Seattle style teriyaki joint opening on Lex btw. 54+55th? Wined and Dined forwarded us a link to their business plan, which has a few tasty nuggets we didn’t know originally, like… the owner of Glaze was a co-owner of Spotlight Live in Times Square, and they see Chipotle as their business model (wonder if they’re concerned about this?)  But our favorite part of the pitch is how they describe Teriyaki Boy:  “In contrast to Seattle, New York has only one comparable restaurant (Teriyaki Boy) with three locations. Unfortunately, Teriyaki Boy serves poor quality, tasteless Teriyaki and has been unfavorably reviewed on Yelp.com.”  Ouch.  My old co-worker Stanley T respectfully disagrees.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but we’re hearing that Glaze hopes to be open the week after Thanksgiving.

Glaze Brings Seattle Style Teriyaki to Midtown

We’ve never felt a lack of chicken teriyaki here in Midtown (after all, this is the home of Teriyaki Boy!) but apparently it’s nothing compared to the amount of teriyaki you can get in Seattle.  According to the New York Times it’s a huge deal out there, and Glaze Teriyaki is looking to spread that love to NYC.  Inspired by Seattle, and located on Lexington btw. 54+55th, Glaze plans on opening in the next few weeks (Eater got a shot of the plywood last week.)  We’re not exactly sure what makes Seattle teriyaki so much different than the versions we already have… but we look forward to finding out!
