Best (Out of Bounds) Thai Food: 2010 Reader’s Poll

Your nominations are in, and between now and the end of the year we’ll be asking all of you to vote for the best Midtown Lunches in a whole range of categories. You can only vote once per category (so choose wisely), and official results will be posted after the new year.

Everybody knows there’s no good Thai food in Midtown!  To get the good stuff you’ve got to go to the West or the South or the East (but mostly to the West).  Not everybody can make it over to 9th Ave. (or 2nd Ave., or to the Flatiron) on their lunch break, but just in case you do you’ll want to make it worthwhile, right?  Here are the nominees for the best Thai food on the fringes of (or just outside) the ML boundaries:

Bian Dang (aka NYC Cravings) is Now Open!?: Not much action on the ML Twitter Tracker today, except for this bombshell... It sounds like the branch of NYC Cravings (now known as Bian Dang) in the Koreatown food court (on 32nd btw. B'way+5th) is now open.  Early adopters, let us know how it is!

Stick to the Coffee at Piccolo Cafe For Now

Piccolo Cafe

I’ve tracked the opening of Piccolo Café (40th st between 7th & 8th) with a good deal of excitement. Their original location in Gramercy seems to have a loyal following, and even counts CNN reporter, Soledad O’Brien as a fan. At first impression, it’s a picturesque and civilized café on a street that’s lined with fashion district dives, generic delis, and glutted with traffic. Inside, it’s pretty and warm, and a place where I would be perfectly happy to linger for far too long over a steamy cup of Joe.

It was a busy year for Japanese fast food in Midtown.  We finally got our very own Seattle style teriyaki place, the Japanese trinity on 41st Street became a quartet, and a few places decided to change names.  Will any of this matter, or will Cafe Zaiya claim its fourth straight victory in this category.  Only one way to find out… here are the nominees for best Japanese fast food in Midtown:
