Free Sloppy Joe Slider Alert

Remember back in May when Bobby Flay showed up at Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen (on 41st and 8th) for a sloppy joe throwdown?  Well the episode finally airs tonight at 9 PM EST on the Food Network, and to celebrate (or possibly redeem themselves?) Schnipper’s will be giving out free sloppy joe sliders during lunch time. Freeloaders, engage! [via Wined and Dined]

Breaking the Buffet Rules

DSC00327The ML Guide to Beating the All You Can Eat Buffet shouldn’t need an entry telling you not to eat on your way to the buffet (it’s just common sense), but there is a part of me that has a tremendous amount of respect for a guy who stops at Woorijip and Mandoo Bar on the way to the Ichi Umi sushi buffet (fmr. Todai.)  [Tasty Chomps]

In the ML Forums: Here's what lunchers are talking about in the forums today...

  • Friday is $10 eel day at Sakagura, but you have to get there super early [Midtown Eating]
  • Eating street food makes for a great date [Miscellaneous]
  • Looking for a cart near 55th and Lex that wasn't Street Meat Palooza'd [Midtown Eating]
  • Do they serve "blondie" beer at Rudy's on 9th Ave.? [Connections]
  • The Steak Truck's super fresh lettuce puts Shendy's to shame [Midtown Eating]

Free Burger FAIL: Just in case you didn't notice the retraction, there are no free Heartland Brewery coupons being handed out tomorrow morning at the NYC & Co. info booth. Freeloaders, disengage.

CNN Reporter Cart Hops Through Midtown

cnn_carts

It looks like CNN’s Maggie Lake had my kind of lunch the other day, using twitter to bounce from streetcart to streetcart (starting at the CNN offices in Columbus Circle.) Reports about carts that twitter is nothing new, but it’s still cool to see the Treats Truck, Rickshaw Dumpling Truck, Le Gamin, and La Cense Burger Truck getting a little bit of love from the national cable media.

At Some Street Carts White Sauce Equals Mayo

14For those of you in denial (our Happy Hour Correspondent Mamacita for one) here is proof that not only does the “white sauce” from your favorite street meat often contain mayo, but sometimes it’s just mayo: “I was just at the Steak Truck (on 47th and Park) and the guy in front of me ordered a combo over rice with white sauce and hot sauce. He got served his food with the typical squeeze from a white bottle and red bottle. But here’s the interesting part: when I then asked for ketchup and mayo on my burger, the Steak Truck guy pulled out the SAME white bottle he had used for the halal combo and spritzed my burger with it. Proof that white sauce = watered down mayo at a lot of truck and carts. -Will (aka Lunch’er WaitingForBajaFresh)”.  Once again I’m going to file this under things I wish I didn’t know.

Pelau Reminder: Don't forget, today (and tomorrow) is pigeon peas pelau day at the Trini Paki Boys cart (on 43rd & 6th.) Today they made it with beef, tomorrow they're planning on chicken.
