Pie Face, the Australian meat pie chain we’ve been keeping our eye on for the past few months, has finally opened its doors on 53rd and Broadway. They’re serving both sweet and savory pies, as well as other breakfast (pastries) and lunch (soups, sandwiches) items, all well within the ML budget. According to several comments and a note left on my last post by someone on their PR team, they’ll be giving away free meat pies on Australia Day (Thursday, January 26) from midnight to midnight. 24 hours of free food? Pie Face, 53rd & Broadway

According to Twitter Coolhaus will be giving away free small scoops of holiday ice cream today with the purchase of hot cocoa, while supplies last. They suggest putting the scoop in the hot chocolate, which sounds like a great way to enjoy ice cream in this ridiculously cold weather! According to this, they’ll be in Midtown at 38th street between 5th & 6th avenues from 11am-5pm, but as always, we suggest you check the ML Twitter Tracker before heading out. Pretty sweet way to start the new year!

Seems like it’s been all Level Up all the time for the past week, but when free food is involved we pay attention. We’ve seen freebies from Guy & Gallard and City Sandwich, plus that $20 lunch credit deal yesterday.  Today it’s Eddie’s Pizza Truck’s turn. The truck is scheduled to park at Lexington and 47th Street and all you have to do to get a $10 credit for free lunch is to install and register with the Level Up app on your Iphone or Android. On your mark, get set, freeload…

The second floor MoMA exhibit we told you about last month is open and serving free Thai curry from noon to 3 (except on Fridays when it will be served from 4 to 7.) Lunch’er Peg went on opening day (November 17), and reported back:

A few fellow freeloaders – I mean colleagues – from the office tried day 1 of free curry at MoMA. The good news: barely a line at noon for very tasty green curry! The bad news: the portion was small.

The exhibit runs through February 8th, so you have plenty of time this winter to check it out.  Of course unless you’re a member, entry to the museum will cost you $25, so “free” curry is a little misleading…

Today’s the final week in Mastercard’s Priceless Food Truck Feast Promotion. The good news is each truck is giving out 500 free lunches once again. The bad news is we get very little love in Midtown this week. Our only options in Midtown are La Cense Burger and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream (two trucks that rarely come to Midtown any longer) both located on Lexington between 52nd and 53rd. Taim and Souvlaki GR will also be parked a bit out of bounds even for the Flatiron on 28th between 1st and 2nd. If you can stop by and deal with the crazy lines, remember to flash your Mastercard, like them on Facebook, or tweet using the hashtag #pricelessny. And if we’re really lucky, maybe they’ll extend the promotion through December. But I wouldn’t count on it.
