You know we’re all about the free food here on Midtown Lunch, and is there really any better free food promotion than Ben & Jerry’s free cone day? Sure, the lines are ridiculously long. But they move quick, everybody is all smiles, and at the end of the line you get a full scoop of ice cream- not some little thimble full of nonsense. Just like previous years, both of the Midtown Ben & Jerry’s locations (Rock Center basement and the branch on the 4th floor of Macy’s) will be participating. Freeloaders, prepare to engage.

Thanks to our old friend Danny from Food in Mouth for passing along this one… in the basement of Rock Center, near the windows looking out on the Rink Bar, they’re doing something called “A Taste of Cocoa”. Apparently Potbelly, ‘wichcraft, Bill’s Bar & Burgers, and Bouchon Bakery are all handing out free samples of hot chocolate. He says that they’ll be there until 5pm.

It’s been a good week for chain loving freeloaders. Yesterday a new Pie Face opened, and handed out freebies. Today, we got this news about a new Chop’t on 43rd and 3rd. I guess technically it’s not free… they will be accepting donations to benefit Wellness in the Schools.

Cheesy Free Stuff from Sweetery: Does Sweetery ever sell anything from their truck? I feel like they're always teamed up with some food company giving away free samples. Better news for us, really. From now until October 30, they'll be giving out free cheese samples from Castello Cheese. Three samples will be offered, including Weissbier (doesn't that mean wheat beer?), Bergkase, and Hirten so check their location on Twitter (today they're at 50th bw 6th and 7th) so go and get your free cheese!

Macaron Cafe, a place we’ve been enjoying since 2008, will celebrate the Grand Opening of its third and “flagship” location today on 3rd Ave btw. 46th + 47th. And the best part is… each customer will receive one free macaron. According to their menu, they’ll also have an $8.75 roast beef sandwich special and a $9.75 vermicelli pasta salad along with their regular lunch sandwiches and salads, which sound amazing and they’re all under $10. In addition, this Macaron Cafe will offer an expanded evening menu from 5-8 Monday-Friday that will include French wine, champagne, and petits plats (aka French tapas). Perhaps a new happy hour spot?

Ben & Jerry’s Truck Returns with Free Greek Yogurt: It was two summers ago that Ben & Jerry's launched a temporary promotional truck and now they're back offering up free scoops of their recently unveiled line of Greek frozen yogurt now through August 3. Blondie was impressed by their Blueberry Vanilla Graham flavor, but I'm guessing it won't be nearly as decadent and fresh as the stuff they're pushing from Uncle Gussy's recently launched cart, Pago. But this is free so that's tough to beat. They're tweeting their locations and accepting parking spot requests on Twitter.
