How Bad Could Kyochon Be? Jimmy Fallon Loves it!

Yummy Yummy Falafel Bar Coming Soon

Yummy Yummy, NYC

With the opening of Pizza By Cer Te and news about Hello Pasta, the area by E 55th seems to be getting a whole lotta food action lately! Thanks to Lunch’er Apikoros18 for pointing out the kosher place Yummy Yummy (on Lex btw. 55+56th) that’ll soon arrive too! Looks pretty mysterious so far – just a storefront plastered with “Falafal bar, free salad bar, coffee bar, hummus, bourekas, soups”. No indication about how soon it’ll open, but as soon as we know- you’ll know.

Geraldo Eats at Margon; Brian Williams at Sacco

Margon, Midtown NYC
Is that Geraldo?!

Today’s New York Post has a great article asking “celebrities” (some more than others) who work in Midtown where their go-to lunch spots are. There are some boringly obvious answers (Donald Trump eats at the Trump Grill, Dave Letterman eats at the Hello Deli, and the owner of the 2nd Ave Deli eats at… the 2nd Ave Deli) but there’s also some kind of great ones. For example, Brian Williams eats at Sacco- a pizza place on 9th Ave. that Slice, coincidentally enough, just posted about. And Geraldo Rivera eats at Midtown Lunch fave Margon (on 46th btw. 6+7th). “They make this incredible sandwich with shredded pork, lettuce, pickles — it literally has all the major food groups covered.” Hard to argue with that…

8 Cent Chaat Reminder: If you can stand waiting until 2pm for lunch, today is 8 Cent chaat day at Indus Express (on 48th btw. 5+6th), courtesy of 8 Coupons. The deal is only good from 2-6pm, and you have to text yourself a coupon to redeem it. Don't know what chaat is? Here's a good primer.

Penn Station Taco Truck Adds Tamales to the Menu

Once again, Lunch’er “nomnomnyc” comes through in the forums with intel on El Camioncito (on 31st and 7th Avenue), the Ecuadorian Truck that added tacos to its menu last month. They have now expanded the Mexican portion of the menu to include tamales filled with your choice of pork or chicken. His initial report isn’t stellar, noting that the pork is a bit dry, but it is a new addition. Given the limited Mexican options nearby, all we can do is hope that it improves over time.

“Low Carbon” Otarian to Open in Midtown on Thursday

DSC00134

Last week Otarian, the much hyped “low carbon” fast food restaurant opened on Bleeker Street and their second location is set to open tomorrow on 8th and 56th. For Midtown Lunchers who prefer greenhouse emissions meat with their lunch this place is probably a pass, but for Sarah and the other ML vegetarians we’ve rounded up some pre-opening coverage.

Washoku Cafe adds Ramen to the menu

_MG_1192 - Version 2

It’s been awhile since we’ve mentioned Washoku Cafe, the Japanese quick lunch spot on 37th btw Mad+5th. They’ve actually made some adjustments to their menu recently. In addition to the selection of bento boxes, sushi and rice bowls, they are now serving ramen as well. I’ll definitely be stopping by soon to give it a try. With the weather bouncing from warm and sunny to damp and dreary, it’s just a matter of time before a nice bowl of soup is in order.

If any early adopters have checked out the ramen at Washoku, let us know how it is in the comments.

When Can We Expect the “Schnitzel Down”?

Photo uploaded to the ML Flickr Pool by Phude-NYC

You know what would make these two deliciously fried cutlets even better? Bacon! And Cheese! Maybe the Schnitzel & Things Truck will take a cue from KFC and introduce a Schnitzel Down: Two crispy slabs of veal with cheese and salty bacon in between. I say if they are going to be accused of being a terrorist threat, they might as well go all the way!

Welcome Our New Downtown Lunch Editor: Just wanted to say a big thanks to Chris and Kevin over on our Downtown NYC section. They're both leaving Downtown at the end of the week, and handing over the reigns to Andrea. Please give her a warm ML welcome. In related news, is it just me or does Midtown need a Puerto Rican food cart!?!
