PROFILE: New Downtown Lunch Maven “Andrea”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. But this Tuesday, it’s not just any lunch’er, it’s Andrea, who will be taking the reins here on the Downtown NYC site as Chris and I move on to other, less delicious things.

AndreaName: Andrea

Occupation: Financial Journalist (of sorts)

Where you work: Maiden Lane and Broadway

Age: 29

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything spicy and/or Asian, sausages, seafood, churros sold on the street/subway platform, tacos.

Least Favorite Food: Yellow or stinky cheeses, Filipino food, black olives.

Favorite Lunches Downtown: Catfish sandwich (spicy) from Baoguette on John Street, food carts at Liberty Plaza (especially Sam’s Falafel), randomly put together lunch from the basement of Zeytuna at Nassau and Maiden Lane, Japanese curry from Niko Niko at Pearl and Wall, sandwiches from Jou Jou Cafe at Nassau and John.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: Zeytuna, only because it’s a block away and they literally have every kind of food imaginable.

Place you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: The calamari slice at Portobello’s Pizza at Murray and Greenwich caught my eye, and Little Lad’s Basket inside 120 Broadway.

Dream job location, purely for lunch purposes, and why: Bangkok, Thailand, for the insanely cheap street eats.

Anything you’d like to ask the midtown lunch readers: Anyone know of any good indoor locations below Fulton Street to eat my street meat or other stinky food?

Give her a warm ML welcome, and help her find some place to eat! You can look forward to reading her first review on Thursday, and as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email us at
