i hate to recco rosa mexicana, but that's your only other option. -
That means Chevy's is out too then. That's in TS but not something I would recommend. Def. can't bring wife to a Chipotle. ;P
If you want NON-touristy, you should get away from TS.Maybe Dos Caminos, Rosa Mexicano or Mama Mexico but they aren't near TS.
Sinigual is okay for Mex, it's on E. 42 but I like the other places above more.

cant persuade her to go a different route? Tex Mex in manhattan?!
-
heard some good stuff about Agua Dulce - http://www.yelp.com/biz/agua-dulce-new-york
it's a tad north of times square.
-
Dos Caminos might be a decent option, given the category.

There's a mexican joint on 46th (brasil row), near my favorite restaurant... Ipanema!

(sorry, I can't mention 46th without thinking of ipanema).
Anyway, that place always looks crowded, but not touristy. In fact at late night it turns into a bit of a dance club or something...

Nothing says "thank you for bringing me into the world" like meat, cheese, and wine.

El Centro, 9th Ave & 54th St

I've heard decent things about El Fonda Del Sol which is more upscale. It's closer to Grand Central than Times Sq.
-
Hell's Kitchen on 9th could be perfect http://www.hellskitchen-nyc.com/

Hey adamprato - shill for impanema much?
-
He loves that place. If you been here long enough, you'd know. Plus he doesn't work for Impanema nor wants to eat there everyday for lunch. :)

BTW, we ended up at Virgils. Her call. a wife who loves BBQ. I am a lucky man

Taking the wife for the King Tut Exhibit at the Discovery Center... Where should we eat? She has a preference for Mexican/Tex-Mex style but we are open to ideas... Something NON-touristy. Sorry Bubba Gump Shrimp fans.
