Eddie’s Pizza Truck Transforms to Stouffer’s For Charity

We wouldn’t normally post something like this since frozen prepared food is generally not our thing. But this concerns one of Midtown’s favorite food trucks and it’s for charity, for Pete’s Sake! For the next few weeks, Eddie’s Pizza Truck is moonlighting as the promotional Stouffer’s Mac and Cheese Truck. They’ll be traveling around the city offering a few varieties of their mac and cheese for $4 for a 16 ounce bowl. On select days, they will welcome a celebrity chef/TV personality (like Amanda Freitag and Marc Murphy) to serve a specialty macaroni and cheese. According to their schedule, which can be found on their Facebook page, they will be on 48th & 3rd. Before you complain about pre-packaged or overpriced mac and cheese, you should know that 100% of the profits will be donated to the Mayor’s Fund in order to continue to help the victims of Sandy.

Eddie’s Pizza Cart Returns to the Streets Tomorrow

Eddie's Pizza CartThe pretty rad street cart that Eddie’s Pizza launched just in time for our 5th Birthday party last year has been spending most of its time on Broadway and 66th with one of those parks permits.  Well, we got word from owner Derek that they’ll be rolling it out onto the streets once again starting tomorrow. The cart menu will be similar to that of the truck, but limited to speciality pizzas and a few sliders and sandwiches. They plan to spend more time in Midtown with a spot on 52nd and 6th on Tuesdays, 48th and 6th on Wednesdays, and 52nd and Lexington on Fridays. Of course, double check on their Twitter feed or the ML Twitter Tracker to be sure.  Welcome back, guys!

Eddie’s Pizza Truck Makes its Way to Midtown on Fridays

For anyone who’s a fan of Eddie’s Pizza Truck, I wanted to send out a reminder that they’ll be in Midtown by the New York Public Library on 40th and 5th on Fridays, coinciding with the library’s new Lunch Hour NYC exhibit. I’ve worked in Midtown since April, and I had never seen the truck around. According to their website, they’re mostly hanging out downtown or in the Upper West Side these days, but they usually make it to Midtown on 46th between 5th and 6th on Wednesdays. Last week, I took my break to check out the exhibit, which has a lineup of food trucks outside that rotate daily as part of the experience. I hit them up since I’d never gotten a chance to try their “bar pies” before.

Eddie’s Pizza Truck Now Serving Sandwiches

Eddie's New Sandwiches

If you stopped by Eddie’s Pizza Truck yesterday to score some free food care of LevelUP, you might have noticed a few new items on their menu. Starting this week, they started carrying sandwiches along with a few more expensive pizza toppings like argula. I stopped by to check those out–not for free of course since I already have LevelUP on my phone–and instantly knew that I had to get the porchetta sandwich when I saw it on the menu. Hello cracklin’s!

Eddie's Pizza TruckSeems like it’s been all Level Up all the time for the past week, but when free food is involved we pay attention. Eddie’s Pizza Truck Now Has Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookie

A few weeks back, Eddie’s Pizza Truck and Cart began carrying some dessert…  chocolate chip cookies supposedly being baked fresh on the truck. The day I stopped by the cart, they were not freshly baked, but wrapped in plastic but that being said, the cookie wasn’t a complete let-down. The massive, chewy cookie tasted fresher than most packaged cookies and there wasn’t any chemical preservative aftertaste. My only big gripe was how few chocolate chips were involved. I love the cookie itself, but chocolate chips are what should make a chocolate chip cookie. But considering how big the cookie is for only $2, I suppose I can overlook the lesser amount of chips for an otherwise nice dessert.

The truck can be found on 46th at 6th today. As always, check their Twitter (@EddiesPizzaNY) or the ML Twitter Tracker before heading out.

Eddie’s Pizza Now Serving Pesto Pasta

Eddie's Pizza Cart
Last week, Eddie’s Pizza Truck (and Cart) started offering a new side, Pasta Pesto. I’m not usually a fan of cold pasta salads, but I’ve been having a bit of a love affair with pesto lately. I know that most people are stopping by Eddie’s for their own bar pie, but sometimes you want to add something onto your lunch, and this is a fantastic side to be offering. It also might be a little more refreshing in this hot summer heat than some other cart offerings.

Pulled Pork Pizza from Eddie’s Pizza Truck

Eddie's Pizza Truck
Whenever I’m feeling low on lunchtime inspiration, I usually take a peek at the ML Twitter Tracker to see which of the trucks are around and if they’re packing any specials. Yesterday I noticed Eddie’s Pizza Truck was just a few blocks away and packing pulled pork pizza ($9 for a bar pie). Seeing as that’s a combination of two of my favorite dishes, I had to check it out. Read more »

Highlights From Our 5th Birthday Party

Crowd shot

On Saturday we gathered together at City Winery with a couple hundred of our closest friends to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of Midtown Lunch (yes, we too are surprised this thing has been around for 5 years!)   A great time was had by all thanks to the amazing food (provided graciously by Kwik Meal, The Biryani Cart, Cer Te, Ma Peche, Food Gallery 32, El Rey del Sabor, Tri Tip Grill, Wafels & Dinges, Miss Softee & the Rolling Cones, Kelvin Slush, and Momofuku Milk Bar) and the endless drinks courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery and GuS’s soda.

Check out the highlights, after the jump…

Eddie’s Pizza Launching First Ever Pizza Cart (And They’re Bringing it to Our B’day Party)

Despite the trouble that food trucks these days seem to be having finding spots, we’ve still seen our fair share of carts upgrade to food trucks (just this week Jamaican Dutchy announced that they would be launching a food truck on Monday), and obviously a lot of  the gourmet food trucks have gone brick and mortar, but truck to cart?  That’s a lot more rare.  Last year Wafels & Dinges added a couple of carts to their arsenal, and this week Eddie’s Pizza Truck is following suit.  That’s right… pizza from a halal style cart!

Check out interior photos of the oven after the jump…
