Crumbs Enters the Cronut Fray w/ the Crumbnut

OK, so these aren’t the cronuts people are camping out for downtown at Domonique Ansel Bakery, but we’ll take what we can get at this point. In addition to some other knockoffs, what we can now get is the Crumbnut, a doughnut-croissant hybrid made by the cupcake chain, Crumbs.

Go for the Black Bean Burger and the Desserts at The Green Radish

Last week, the new Vegan/Organic food truck, The Green Radish, made its debut in Midtown, with a menu featuring various Vegan burgers, sandwiches, salads, and a wide variety of Vegan desserts. Though I don’t usually go for Vegan or vegetarian food, I have friends and family members who do, and it’s nice to know my options in the neighborhood of where I could be content taking them. I decided to catch up with the truck again this week, and found The Green Radish parked on the NW corner of 47th and Madison, setting itself apart from the food trucks and across the intersection in front of the Chase building on 47th between Madison and Park. Here’s the roundup for our first look…

El Rey Del Sabor Experiments with Rebranding and Cheesesteaks

A few weeks ago, I noticed a new cart, New York Philly Cheese Steak, on the corner of 49th and Park. Thanks to a tip from Luncher Aarle, we now know that this cart was actually just a rebranded El Rey Del Sabor. Along with an updated name and look, the cart added cheesesteaks to its menu, initially priced at $8, but then later revised to $6.50.

Hot Clay Oven’s Naan Wrap Is Tasty, But Too Pricey for Indian

Last week, Hot Clay Oven finally opened on 3rd Ave. (btw 44th+45th) in Midtown East. You probably already know the drill for the “Indian Chipotle“: you choose whether you want a wrap, naan wrap, rice bowl, or salad, and get to pick from a menu of proteins, toppings, and sauces. So, how does the newest location stack up?

Jersey Mike’s Subs Is Coming to Midtown

IMG_9420

Signage recently went up for the first Midtown location of Jersey Mike’s Subs on Third Avenue between 56th and 57th Street. No word yet on exactly when they’ll be open, but you can get a taste of what to expect down in the FiDi. The first NYC location of the Jersey based sandwich chain opened downtown a few weeks ago and Andrea was impressed with their Italian hoagies, saying it’s far better than anything from Subway or Blimpies. Should we be excited about this new sandwich option? Leave comments below.

Crisp Has Closed Its 3rd Ave. Location

Got some bad news from a couple of tipsters at the end of last week. Gourmet falafel chain Crisp has closed it’s 3rd Ave. location (btw 43rd+44th). According to the sign seen above, their lease is up and they’ve chosen not to renew it. Sure, their falafel was overpriced, but some of their more inventive offerings were pretty damned good (I personally enjoyed the Africa), and it was one of the only places I know of that let you add french fries inside your sandwich. Their location on West 40th is still open, but they’ll be missed over on 3rd.
