So… This Happened in Bryant Park Today at Noon

Which is why we took the rest of today off.  Have a good weekend… and see you at the Vendys tomorrow!

Oh, and the results for Street Meat Palooza 6 should be up in a week or two.  Thanks to everyone who nominated a cart, and participated.

First Look at BoDillaz Famous Quesadillas Truck

Last week, BoDillaz Famous Quesadillas Truck made an appearance on Park Avenue between 47th and 48th Street in a spot Chris noticed growing more and more popular for food trucks. With the brick and mortar location based in Richmond, Virginia, BoDillaz Famous Quesadillas brings the Superbowl to lunch in Midtown with over twenty different signature quesadillas, signature wraps, wings, and salads. Since the truck is literally famous for its quesadillas, I had to know what exactly makes a BoDillaz quesadilla so famous…

Flatiron Lunch: Let’s Hold On To Summer with Ralph’s Italian Ices

Every Friday we go south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

It we had a Flatiron Mid-Afternoon Snack column, Ralph’s Italian Ice would be featured there. Since we don’t and it is anyone’s guess how many warm afternoons we have left, I had to throw this one in now! I don’t know about you, but I normally associate Italian ice with a hot summer weekend beach day. But I shouldn’t discriminate. Why can’t it be a weekday mid-afternoon pick-me-up? It can.

Flatiron News: Happy Birthday Eataly!

Here’s a bit of Flatiron Lunch news before we lay this week’s review on you…

Eataly is celebrating is 3rd Birthday. (Has it really been only 3 years? Crazy. Seems like it has been around much longer.) To celebrate, they are having a tasting party. Individual tasting tickets are $4 each and can be bought today at the 23rd Street entrance. It is unclear how much you will be able to eat for $4, since most of the substantial dishes are 2-4 tickets. But if you are willing to spend a little more to reward yourself for getting through this 4-day work week, I am sure it will be tasty. Still, some of the 1 ticket dishes have potential: olive oil-preserved tuna crostini, fried chickpeas, oyster bar and chocolate foundation with chocolate dips. And can someone please spend the $12 (3 tickets) to try the whole roasted pork shoulder? Pretty please!

While you are at Eataly, there is another Birthday deal to be had – products marked down to $3. Don’t get too distracted by the can of tomatoes (formerly $3.80) and head straight to the Torrone Martino chocolate hazelnut gianduja truffles or the Babbi hazelnut spread both market down from $7.80. At least that would be my strategy. More chocolate hazelnut products, less tomato sauce.

Renovations Close Dee Daa This Week

Some of you may have walked by Dee Daa (44th St. btw Lex+3rd) this week and thought, or maybe even hoped, that they had closed down. Sorry Lunchers, but the disappointing Thai lunch spot is merely closed for renovations and is expected to reopen early next week. Is this another reset for the restaurant? Does anyone even care?

Kushi-Q Now Offering a $6 Lunch Special

It’s been a few years since we last looked at Kushi-Q and its yakitori. Although its 3rd Ave. location shut down in 2010, the Citigroup Center food court location (at 53rd and Lex) is still going strong. One of Zach’s biggest complaints about the place in 2010 was that it was kind of pricy for the amount of food you actually got. Now, they’re trying to appeal more to low budget lunchers with a $6 special.

The Green Radish Makes Its Debut in Midtown

The Green Radish, a new vegan/organic food truck, debuted yesterday in Midtown on 51st Street between Madison and Park. The truck, founded by Chef James Rafferty, formerly of Bouley, showcases Rafferty’s love of Vegan food through a number of different burgers, such as the Black Bean Burger, Chickpea Burger, and Portabello Burger (all $10) as well as other various salads ($8-9) and sandwiches ($10). The truck also features a variety of Vegan friendly desserts – the one most interesting to me is the chocolate peanut butter crunchy quinoa cup with fresh mint ($5).

Early adopters, what’s your take? Let us know in the comments.

Hot Clay Oven Opens With 50% Off Deal

Hot Clay Oven, otherwise known as the Indian Chipotle, is now open on 3rd Ave. (btw 44th+45th), and they’re offering 50% off all entrees, plus unlimited toppings, for a limited time. The Indian fusion spot already has a location downtown, and offers a menu of wraps, rice, and salad bowls with a number of proteins, sauces, and toppings to choose from. We’ll have a review soon, but early adopters let us know what you think.  (Thanks to Lunch’er James for the tip!)

Blue Dog Kitchen Sports an Impressive Sandwich Menu

Blue Dog recently opened a new location on West 50th street, and after reading about their wide array of sandwiches in Sarah’s Flatiron post, I was suddenly excited for sandwiches, myself.

The new location has more seating than its flatiron counterpart, but the lunchtime line does still wind around the tables, and much of the space is taken up by people waiting for their food. The vibe, though, is laid back, and if I had more time or worked closer, I would certainly like to eat in. But alas, the luxury of time is not usually on my side, and I took my sandwiches to go.
