Super Dumpling Pops Up in the Old Prince Grill Space

Super Dumpling

A little over a year ago we reported that Prince Grill (formerly known as Prince Deli) had moved to a new location (45th btw 2nd+3rd). We were pretty happy that we would still get the chance to eat their famous falafel, though somehow along the way they closed. But then recently as I was walking back to work after scoring some ramps at the Dag Hammarskjold farmers market on 47th and 2nd, I noticed that Super Dumpling has opened for business. Well, I’m always down for dumplings…

Contributor Stalking (The “Rabbit & Lamb” edition)

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (We’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Easter Bunny was the snack of the week as Donny tried the rabbit stew from Sea Bean Goods and Brian had the Rabbit Pot Pie at The Dutch, Blondie loved Handsome Hank’s fish sandwich at Smorgasburg, Brownie made Pastiera di Grano, an Italian Easter pie, Rachel made a kosher for Passover turkey wrap and I am looking ahead to the next Bed-Stuy Crawl, this weekend.

Elsewhere in the ML universe… Andrea splurged on a lamb sandwich at Snack downtown, Jamie had congee and sticky meatballs in Philly and Zach is on vacation.

Sarah’s Kitchen To Open This Thursday

Sarah's Kitchen
A little over a month ago we brought you news that the sign went up for Sarah’s Kitchen (it took over the old Pinnacle Bagel & Deli space on 3rd btw 45th+46th). Though I have seen workers come and go, there were no signs as to when it was going to open. Then, finally, I saw it on the door: Sarah’s Kitchen is set to open this Thursday, April 12th. My coworker and I looked through the glass and saw what looked to be just another deli. Oh well, I still hope to find something delicious there.

696 Gourmet Deli Serves A Messy, Delicious Roast Beef Sandwich

696 Deli
I walk by 696 Gourmet Deli everyday, but never once did I think about going inside to get breakfast or lunch. I have looked at their lunch specials but only when I’m on my way to grab lunch from somewhere else. Then one day I found myself craving a sandwich. Not just any sandwich: a really messy, gut busting, nap required after eating sort of sandwich. I had thought about the crazy chicken sandwich I had at Previti that was as big as my head, but I wanted somewhere closer. While wandering around, I found myself checking out 696 Gourmet Deli and their lunch specials, and I ended up getting the roast beef sandwich ($6.50). So was it the messy gut busting sandwich I was craving for?

Your First Look At 5 Boro Burger’s Burger

5 Boro Burger
Herald Square’s 5 Boro Burger (36th+6th) quietly entered the burger fray last week with a menu of burgers averaging around the Midtown Lunch $10 limit. I stopped by to get a closer look at the menu, hoping that something substantial would clock in under $10. And I ran into a classic problem of waiter service. It’s hard to do $10 when you have servers!

PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Jessica”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Jessica, an art museum worker bee who’d love to live in Pakistan.

Name: Jessica

Age: 27

Occupation: Art Museum Worker Bee

Where in Midtown do you work? Flatiron, formally at 75 Rock

Favorite Kind of Food: I grew up around a lot of different cultures, so I have a lot of favorites. Sicilian, Colombian, Lebanese, Chinese … if I had to choose one dish I’d probably pick a big ol’ plate of rice, red beans and sweet plantains for my go to comfort food. Close seconds include: ANY pasta, pork dumplings, and Entenmann’s banana cake with the chocolate and the crumb topping (yup, I went there).

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Raw Onion, Yogurt.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: El Sabroso aka the garment district freight elevator, Qwik Meal, Hallo Berlin, Woorijip, the counter at Grand Central Oyster Bar.
