Rock Center’s Potbelly Now Serving Breakfast

Potbelly Rock Center
For those of you who can’t get enough of Potbelly, the Rock Center branch is now serving breakfast until 11 am. In addition to breakfast sandwiches they have steel cut oatmeal topped with brown sugar or fruit and nuts. Now the the real question is are there secret menu breakfast items? How about a Breakfast Wreak? Can we make that happen?!

The Sliders at Bill’s Bar & Burger Need to #Occupy My Belly

Bills Bar and burger smallAt some point in the review of the sliders at Bill’s Bar and Burger (on 51st btw. 5+6th), both Josh Ozersky and Ed Levine at Serious Eats make mention of White Castle. Ed finds out that they source the slider buns from the chain, while Mr. Cutlets proclaims the sliders to be like a high class White Castle. But comparing these sliders to White Castle is selling them short, as every White Castle experience I’ve ever had is punctuated by soggy, greasy, wilting buns and overwhelmingly onion-y meat – the sliders at BB&B certainly are not. Nonetheless, spurred on by two very favorable reviews by these high profile foodies, I decided that I had to check them out for myself.

Nuchas Is Now Open In Times Sq

As we reported earlier this week, Nuchas opened for business today, although you might not be able to tell because of the giant trucks and cranes parked right in front of their window. (They are thrilled, let me tell you.) The gourmet empanada kiosk joins Salume and Snack Box in the Times Square pedestrian walkways.

Flatiron Lunch: First Look at Schnipper’s, Shorty’s & Tappo

_MG_4850

As I’ve mentioned for the last couple weeks, a ton of new places have opened this fall in Flatiron Lunch bounds. With so many new places popping up, I’d be posting ‘first looks’ for the rest of the month, so I decided to consolidate them into one handy post. After the jump, get a closer look at two Midtown transplants and a fancy, but budget friendly Italian spot.

Brooklyn’s DOUGH Doughnuts Now Available in Midtown!

Culture Espresso

Culture Espresso continues to give me more reasons to love them. First, their awesome freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, then they started “importing” SCRATCHbread scones from Brooklyn and now they are getting deliveries of my favorite doughnuts in the city. That’s right you can get Dough doughnuts in midtown! Read more »

Steak ‘n Shake Midtown Now Hiring

Steak and Shake Exterior

Back in July, news broke that Steak N Shake was going to be opening near the Late Show theater in Midtown and whether you love it or hate it, it looks like Steak and Shake is getting set to open in the near future on B’way btw. 53+54th. The publicly traded (NYSE:BH) Midwestern chain serves modestly priced burgers, shakes, chili and other diner/comfort food dishes, and while I can’t stand the place it is AHT approved. Appropriately, they’ve chosen their location on Broadway right next to fellow Hoosier, David Letterman. So for those of you that like chain diners, start getting excited.

Cinnamon Snail Coming to NYC in 3-4 Weeks (Hopefully)

DSC00224
Off the top of my head I can’t think of any “out” vegan ML Lunchers, but even an avid meat and dairy lover like myself can appreciate the imminent arrival of The Cinnamon Snail, New Jersey’s vegan food truck. Why? Let’s talk doughnuts. Incredibly delicious doughnuts. Read more »

You Might Want to Think Twice About Waiting in Line for Tuk-Tuk Boy

Pad Thai Cart

Our fearless leader, Zach Brooks, as well as several profiled Midtown Lunch’ers have publicly expressed how great it would for a Thai cart or food truck to make their presence in Midtown. You see, Thai restaurants are oddly absent from Midtown proper. Sure, 8th and 9th Avenue are practically glutted with Thai restaurants that range from acceptable to awesome, and there’s a handful of serviceable Thai restaurants on the east side, mostly clustered around the lower 50’th streets at 2nd and 3rd avenue – certainly a stretch for the lunch’ers located in central Midtown. Even after 10 minutes of tooling around on Yelp extensive research, I couldn’t locate any Thai restaurants remotely close to Midtown central aside from the laughably bad Thai at Dee Daa and overpriced and underwhelming Thai at Nanking.

This lack of affordable Thai food is why we got so excited when we saw that a new Thai food cart, called Tuk-Tuk Boy, appeared on 50th between 6th & 7th this week.  And clearly we weren’t the only ones.  For the second day in the row the line was 20 people deep for most of lunch yesterday, and we heard that the cart ran out of most items shortly after 1pm.

But you might want to curb that enthusiasm a bit for now…
