New Potbelly Coming To 45th Street Tomorrow

Potbelly Sandwich Shop is expanding to take over the old Taz space next door to Sophie’s (on 45th btw. 5+6th).  They were supposed to open last Tuesday, but Sandy ended up pushing the opening to tomorrow at 11 a.m. I guess this is a step up from the generic deli that once kind of almost served up Vietnamese food … but are we actually excited for yet another Potbelly?

Potbelly Sandwich Shop, 19 W. 45th Street

52nd Street Potbelly Opens Tomorrow: The branch of Potbelly we told you about back in April (the one on 52nd btw. Lex+3rd) opens tomorrow, June 5th.  Are people still excited about this place or has it just become a glorified Subway with a secret menu for fatsos?  Feel free to sound off in the comments.

I Guess There’s Room For More Potbelly

I feel like every week we devote a news post to another Potbelly opening in Midtown. And it’s true because they keep on coming. Thanks to Luncher Daniel who noticed that a fifth Midtown location of the Chicago based sandwich shop will open in the old Dig Inn Sensebowl space on 52nd between Lex and 3rd. No word on the exact opening day, but at the rate this company’s been moving in these parts, I’m betting it’s pretty soon.

Midtown’s Potbelly Tally Now Equals Four

Hard to believe that just a year ago there were zero Potbelly Sandwich shops in Midtown and now we have four. The most recent location on Fifth Avenue (between 34th and 35th) that we told you about back in January is now officially open. It’s the fourth location in Midtown alone (not to mention two in the FiDi and one in the Flatiron) after the Rockefeller Center, Midtown East, and 37th and 7th locations. And the expansion is not over. According to their website, Potbelly’s gut will continue to grow when a location at 52nd and 3rd opens later this year. Seriously, will there be any area of Midtown where these sandwiches are not available?

More Potbelly is Coming to Midtown

It was just back in May that we first learned that Chicago sandwich chain Potbelly would be opening a location in Rockefeller Center. And since then, they’ve continued to expand in Midtown at a feverish pace. In addition to the new location on 37th and 7th, yesterday we got word that another store will be opening in the spring. It will be located at 366 Fifth Avenue (between 34th and 35th) on the ground floor of the New York Accessories Exchange Building. There’s no signage up yet, but the security guards in the building (who seemed very excited about the new addition) said it would be taking the place of shuttered shoe store Make 10.

Jamba Juice vs. Potbelly: A Battle For Steel Cut Oat Supremacy

Potbelly Rock Center

It’s not all that uncommon that I run out the door without something to eat in the morning so I was pretty excited to see that Potbelly in Rock Center is now serving breakfast. And even more excited to see that they had steel cut oats. I’m a big steel cut oatmeal fan and I usually splurge for the oatmeal at Jamba Juice, so I had to see how Potbelly stacked up.

Rock Center’s Potbelly Now Serving Breakfast

Potbelly Rock Center
For those of you who can’t get enough of Potbelly, the Rock Center branch is now serving breakfast until 11 am. In addition to breakfast sandwiches they have steel cut oatmeal topped with brown sugar or fruit and nuts. Now the the real question is are there secret menu breakfast items? How about a Breakfast Wreak? Can we make that happen?!

Potbelly’s Secret Menu Available at Rock Center: Great news for those of you who wanted to try Potbelly's secret sandwiches, but didn't want to trek to 44th btw. Lex+3rd... the secret, off the menu options are now available at the Rock Center concourse location as well.  Thanks to Lunch'er Justin for the tip!

Potbelly’s Secret Underground Menu Available on 44th

Ever since Andrea posted about her unsuccessful attempt at ordering from Potbelly’s secret “underground” menu downtown, I’ve been on a mission to get my hands on these elusive little sandwiches. My only previous experience with Potbelly was years ago at the Chicago airport (I remember them being quite tasty) and I certainly wasn’t hip or in-the-know enough at that point to ask for one of their secret sandwiches. All the underground sandwiches use the same ingredients from one of their signature menu items, but in a different arrangement. So unfortunately, there’s no secret hidden ingredients involved. No foie gras or face bacon, I’m afraid.

After doing some research online, I learned the names of some of the creations, so I was prepared when I walked into the 44th Street Location (between Lex and 3rd). I ordered “the Wrecking Ball” without flinching and to my surprise, the employee seemed to know what I was talking about. He had to check with a manager to find out exactly what was in it, but he made the sandwich no problem. For those curious, the Wrecking Ball is a combination of their Meatball sandwich (minus the marinara sauce) and their Wreck sandwich. I could have also ordered the Fire Ball (meatball sandwich topped with chili) or the Cheeseburger (meatball sandwich with ketchup, mustard, cheese, and pickles).

Potbelly’s Dreambar Will Be a Dream For Some, Nightmare For Others

Potbelly

After tasting two of Potbelly’s three dessert options–I’m not counting the mini cookies as a real option–and being greatly surprised with the taste and quality of their cookies, I was anxious to try out the last dessert, the Dreambar. The Dreambar is a bar equivalent of their Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie in that it’s filled with chocolate chips and rolled oats. But there are some major differences that will steer you towards one or the other.
