Famous Halal Guys Isn’t the Only Cart to Serve Exotic Beverages

It was just a few days ago that Brownie noticed the bottled mango lassi at the Famous Halal Guys cart. And now, yesterday, I was getting lunch at the Trini Paki Boys cart and as I was reaching into the cooler to grab my bottle of water, I discovered some strange bottles among the Coke and Sprite cans. In addition to Mango Lassi (which Zach tried here a few years ago and lunch’er Formz recently mentioned), they also offer Sorrel juice and something called Mauby Bark – all for $3. I was most intrigued by the latter since I had never seen it before and the photo on the bottle looked like a bunch of sticks.

ML Happy Hour: Have A Drink With Dad This Father’s Day

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every week our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Hickey's

Father’s Day is a time to give righteous props to the guy that got lucky with your mom and how better to celebrate your dad then in the way it probably all started -over a drink. Now we all have our family traditions; some like a serene family dinner, some a picnic with the relatives and uncles, others, well others might like to take pops’ away from it all and remind him of his bygone youth. Yes, friends, I’ll start off these father’s day suggestions with this year’s winner: Rick’s Cabaret, just tell mum you went to the MET.

Rick’s Cabaret has 2 for 1 Sunday’s: Bottles and appetizers are buy one get one free (4pm-4am) and admission is gratis till 7pm. Of course, if that’s too rich for your blood or your dad has a bad heart maybe Hooters is a better choice?

Looking for something that won’t get you disowned? Check out some other local picks and some great old man bars after the jump…

New Truck, Same Old Great Goat Curry at Jamaican Dutchy

Jamaican Dutchy TruckThe other week, we were happy to report that O’Neill and the Jamaican Dutchy truck is back in action in Midtown, and it seems like they’ve found a permanent spot (for now) on 52nd between 5th & 6th ave. I stopped by for lunch the other day, and despite the flashy new truck, the food is just as good as always.

Flatiron Lunch: Punjab Palace is Now P&P Restaurant

IMG_3496

Walking down 30th Street the other day, I was surprised to find the sign for Punjab Palace had been taken down. If you recall, I’ve always been a big fan of the wide selection and huge portions they serve up. I stopped in to check it out, and found that things are definitely a bit different about my old favorite.

“Food to Eat” Launches Delivery Service For Street Vendors

I just learned about a new website that launched last week called foodtoeat.com. I had been noticing the stickers on some of the food carts in Midtown and yesterday I ran into the founder of the company. Turns out it’s a food ordering system for pickup and delivery, not too dissimilar from Seamless Web. But what makes this one very different (and even more exciting in my eyes) is that they also include food carts and trucks. Currently, there’s only a handful of carts signed up, but they’re some of the favorites with maddeningly long lines, including Biryani Cart, Kwik Meal, Kim’s Aunt Kitchen, and Uncle Gussy’s. Supposedly, the website will be expanding to include more of the gourmet trucks. The service is free to customers and there’s even an Iphone App available. I have yet to try it out, but if it will eventually allow me to get a burrito from Korilla BBQ without a 30 minute plus wait, sign me up. Has anybody checked it out yet? Please leave thoughts in the comments….
