ML Happy Hour: Have A Drink With Dad This Father’s Day

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every week our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Hickey's

Father’s Day is a time to give righteous props to the guy that got lucky with your mom and how better to celebrate your dad then in the way it probably all started -over a drink. Now we all have our family traditions; some like a serene family dinner, some a picnic with the relatives and uncles, others, well others might like to take pops’ away from it all and remind him of his bygone youth. Yes, friends, I’ll start off these father’s day suggestions with this year’s winner: Rick’s Cabaret, just tell mum you went to the MET.

Rick’s Cabaret has 2 for 1 Sunday’s: Bottles and appetizers are buy one get one free (4pm-4am) and admission is gratis till 7pm. Of course, if that’s too rich for your blood or your dad has a bad heart maybe Hooters is a better choice?

Looking for something that won’t get you disowned? Check out some other local picks and some great old man bars after the jump…

Bierhaus
Bierhau’s has a more family friendly special for Father’s day: 1/2 off one liter steins of cold Hofbräu bier. All day! and not just for dads! Order some brats while you’re at it.

Foley’s Irish Pub
If your dad’s a baseball fan, then he’ll probably want to be in a sports bar watching the Yankees or Mets game. If that sports bar also happens to have a wall of autographed baseballs, curious memorabilia, and bucket of beers, then you just picked the right pub for your pops.

Havana Central, Times Square
Forced to go to Times Square? Well, Havana Central has $12 bottomless Presidente Light beer, along with their regular menu, to make it more bearable. Try their brunch and make sure to get padre one of their hand rolled cigars.

St. Andrews
St. Andrews is offering a special menu with a complimentary glass of beer for Dad all weekend. Their $39.99 prefix menu may not be Midtown Lunching, but despite the price, I’ve enjoyed my trips there and your Dad deserves a flight or two of Scotch -after all he’s to put up with you for all these years, right?

Beacon
If you’re already in a appreciative mood, you might want to take dad to a nice brunch. Beacon’s Steak and Eggs Benedict with country ham is $28 and includes a free Brooklyn Lager beer for dad.

Cornerstone Bar
Is your dad, umm, old? Then take him to Cornerstone’s where they’ll be showing all rounds of the PGA US Open. Plus get their triple B special: Beer, bourbon and burger $20 bucks.

Bourbon Street Bar & Grille
Does dad love a good crawfish boil? Take him to Bourbon Street where they’ll be doing a live crawfish boil on their outdoor patio from 3-8pm. For $25 you get an “all you can eat” Cajun Buffet featuring crawfish, jambalaya, boudin, beignets, and more. ($12.00 If you just want a plate of crawfish.) Drink specials include $5.00 hurricanes & 2 for 1 beers.

The Counter
Is your dad a teetotaler? Jeeze, I’m sorry. Then I guess the next best option is to take him out for a good burger and if you’re a cheapskate then this deal is for you. Buy a burger, get one for dad free.

Feel like taking the old man slumming? There are still a few weathered taps out there for you to show him a bit of old-school NY:

Jimmy’s Corner
Desmonds
Hollands
Subway Inn
Bravest on 38th
