Win A Sneak Peak Lunch or Dinner at Num Pang Midtown

Last month we passed along the news that popular Union Square sandwich shop Num Pang would be opening a Midtown location, and if you’ve walked down 41st btw. Lex+3rd recently you’ve seen that it’s coming along.  In fact they’ve started to send out “preview” invitations for next week, so it’s looking like we’re only a few weeks away from Cambodian sandwich goodness right here in Midtown.  Can’t wait that long?  We’ve convinced them to allow one Midtown Lunch’er (and a guest) in for a sneak lunch or dinner preview of the shop on Tuesday (6/21) .  Interested?  All you have to do to enter to win is comment below on why it should be you.  Winner will be drawn on Monday morning at 11am.  Good luck!

New Halal Cart on 35th Has An Interesting Cooking Technique

IMG_0235 - Version 2

I walk down 35th Street from 6th Ave to 5th Ave pretty much every day on the way to work. About a month ago, a new Halal cart popped up and caught my eye. After the yellow halal truck on 33rd showed up and then disappeared a few weeks later, I hesitated to write this new cart up for fear that it would wander off before too long. At this point, it’s been around long enough that it’s worth mentioning, which is good since the guy who runs it has an interesting trick or two that absolutely makes it worth a visit. See why after the jump.

Kimo Food Cart (aka Sarah’s) Street Meat is Better Than Their Website

Websites and Twitter accounts have become an invaluable tool to many mobile food vendors. The internet is generally the playground of new school vendors with fusion-y menus, gourmet ingredients, and (mostly) smart, aggressive marketing campaigns. But every once in a while, an old school vendor decides to step into the cyber-arena with amusing/confounding results. Such is the case of Kimo Food (aka the self-proclaimed best street food in NYC), a cart whose site actually makes them harder to locate (and features picture of other people’s food, lifted directly from Midtown Lunch!)

Eater’s Taco Round Up Ignores Midtown: Yesterday Eater posted a list of the Top 12 tacos in New York City, and we couldn't help but notice the gaping hole in the middle of their map.  So you don't like El Rey del Sabor?  Fine.  But no Tehuitzingo! Or La Rosita!  Hell, even Toloache could have been on that list.  Where's the Midtown love, Eater?  UPDATE: What's that?  It's a list of NEW tacos?  Oh.  Neeeeevermind.  :-)

Contributor Stalking (The “Carne Asada Fries” Edition)

Brownie took her baby to Xi’an Famous Foods, while Blondie was eating ice cream sandwiches at 3 Tarts in Chelsea.  Clay spent some time on the newly open section of the Highline, Donny was unimpressed by the Montreal bagels at the brand new B&B Empire Bistro, and Brian loved the snails over at Kaz An Nou in Prospect Heights.

Around the rest of the ML empire… Andrea  notices that Sigmund Pretzel Shop has set up a cart in Bowling Green,  Jamie finds some great samosas in Philly, and I discover the awesome-ness that is carne asada fries in Los Angeles.

Like Candy? Printon 56 is Good for More Than Fro-yo

Printon Candy Case

Last week’s lunch time wanderings brought me to 56th street (btw. 5+6th) where I noticed that in addition to the Frogurt, generic deli Printon 56 has a full case of chilled English candies–we’re talking Mars Bars, Flake, Maltesers, Aero Bars, Lion Bars and more. The bars are $1.95 each plus tax (pricey for a candy bar, but not so bad considering that a regular candy bar goes for around a dollar these days at drugstores).  Candy loving anglophiles, rejoice!

Is Oceana’s Lobster Roll Worth the Splurge?

Oceana Lobster Roll Stand
Earlier this week, we noted that Oceana would be joining the lobster roll game by setting up a stand behind the restaurant, serving $15 lobster rolls and $2 cookies. Although The Feast got a first look at these gourmet lobster rolls on Monday, here’s our take on the newest entrant to the burgeoning lobster roll scene.
