No 7 Sub Launching Delivery Tomorrow: According to Grub Street No 7 Sub (on B'way btw. 28+29th in the Ace Hotel) will begin offering delivery tomorrow.  But before you get too excited, the delivery area only extends north to 34th street (23rd is the southern boundary, 7th Ave. to the West and Park Ave. to the East) and it's only available from 2-5pm with a minimum order of $25.

Crisp on Wheels is Launching Thursday

Last month we reported that Crisp, the unique falafel place with 3 locations in New York City, would be launching a food truck. It took a little longer than they expected (it always does) but we’re hearing that they are finally ready to go and the truck will soft launch on Thursday in the Flatiron District (on 26th and Park) serving up falafel and hummus bowls. Follow them on twitter @crisponwheels or on the ML Twitter Tracker for more details.

PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Denise”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Denise, a publicist who would appreciate it if you didn’t tell anybody about Gourmet 53.

Name: Denise

Age: 33

Occupation: Beauty & Lifestyle Publicist

Where in Midtown do you Work?: 54th & 3rd

Favorite Kind of Food: No discrimination here. I will eat basically any kind of food, but have a predisposition for Mexican. I probably eat street meat much more frequently than I should.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: My family is Spanish and they are really into morcilla and tripe dishes, which I just can’t do. With the tripe it’s more about the spongy texture that turns me off.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: I’ll walk over to Mexicue when they are in the area and I’m also really into the Merguez sausage & couscous dishes that Comme Ci Comme Ca does and the guys there are really friendly. If it’s a business lunch, BLT Steak is close by and their giant tower of salty onion rings always seems to call my name from afar. I also can’t turn down a classic veal Milanese, which Casa Lever does nicely.

Spiced Potato Hero from Little Morocco is Spicily Good

Little MoroccoWith so many rainy and gloomy days now, I have grown to treasure any bit of sun we get. So whenever it’s nice out I try to have lunch at Bryant Park. Most recently I found myself standing in front of the Little Morocco cart while waiting for a friend. I quickly remembered the three new heroes that were just added to the menu few weeks ago. Since Blondie had tried the kofta and the lamb merguez heroes, I decided to give the spiced potato hero a try.

Piccolo Cafe Serves Breakfast All Day

The WORKS Breakfast Sandwich. Photo courtesy of Ashley Muir Bruhn/SENY

Chris H. didn’t love his first lunch at Piccolo Cafe, the Gramercy lunch spot that now has two locations in Midtown (one on 40th btw. 7+8th and one on Madison btw. 37+38th).  But here’s something we didn’t notice… they serve their breakfast sandwiches all day long, and they come with a free coffee.  Most of them are actually more expensive than the lunchtime panini ($8-10) but Serious Eats New York has a handy guide to help you decide which of the breakfast sandos is right for you.

WSJ Recaps All the $1 Food Places Opening in Midtown: Speaking of $1 pizza, the WSJ blog has an article on their blog today about all the $1 food places opening recently.  They talk to a bunch of spots you've probably seen here on ML, including Ray's Pizza (about their 75 cents slices), 2 Bros, 99 Cent Fresh, Pop's $1 Food Shop, and Kashmir Grill's $1 burger.

Pitopia Coming Soon to an Already Crowded Falafel Area of Midtown

With Maoz, Crisp, Olympic Pita, and Pick a Pita all within a few blocks of each other, you’d think that the area around 7th Ave. in the high 30s would be all falafeled out. Not so says Pitopia! Thanks to luncher Alvin for sending along the photo of this new spot going into 37th and Broadway… although we’re a bit perplexed by the name. Shouldn’t it be PitaPita. Or Pita-topia? Pitopia is fine I guess, provided nobody confuses it with the Petopia. (That would not be a tasty lunch.) No word on when this place will open, and there’s no more info available on the interwebs… but we’ll let you know as soon as we know more.

Bai Cha Being Replaced by Latin Food: Two weeks ago Life With Food and Drink brought us the news that Bai Cha on 9th Ave. had closed, and this week they find out that it's going to be replaced by OUT Latin Food (whatever that means.)

In-N-Out Pizza or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Dollar Slice

in-n-out pizza outside

The other week, we noticed that an ironically named dollar slice joint, In-N-Out, had popped up on 6th ave (at 39th St), and it appears that they opened for business at some point last week. Before I continue I’ll admit that I’ve never had a dollar slice before, but hunger and thriftiness can drive a man to do crazy things. Needless to say, my dollar slice palate is immature, so please let that caveat this write-up. And as with any new food group, no matter how strange, gross, or potentially detrimental to one’s health, it’s important to keep an open mind and keep things in perspective.

Ma Peche Serving Up an Eater Burger This Week: Eater's Burger Week is under way, and one of the special burgers they had created is here in Midtown.  All this week Ma Peche (on 56th btw. 5+6th) will be serving an 8 oz chuck and short rib burger, topped with lemongrass-chili butter, pickled jalapeno and cabbage slaw, with a side of shrimp chips for $16.  It's only served at lunch, and a bit out of our price range, but all profits go to Edible Schoolyard NYC.
