Kim’s Aunt Kitchen is Also Great For Fried Shrimp

DSC01882

At this point everybody should know that Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Cart (on 46th btw. 5+6th) makes the best (and cheapest) fried fish sandwich in Midtown.  And I’ve even tried their bulgogi beef and lo mein.  But did you know that their fried shrimp are pretty spectacular as well?  As you may or may not know, I’m a big fan of the fried shrimp from a cart.  Little Morrocco (on 39th & 7th) does a nice job, as does the Halal & Seafood Cart (on 39th & 5th), and the 100% Halal Food Cart (on 54th and Park).  But those little jobbies pale in comparison to the monsters being served of the Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Cart.

No Taiwanese Fried Chicken For You Today: The NYC Cravings Truck was named one of the 10 best food trucks in the country by GQ! They usually spend Fridays on 53rd btw. Park+Lex, but sadly their truck is in the shop and won't be open today.  To make up for it, they said they will come back in that spot on Wednesday.  Follow them on twitter, or on the ML Twitter Tracker.

Ladies…The Line at Hallo Berlin is Literally a Sausage Fest

twitter

Now now boys, don’t stare. It’s impolite… and kind of creepy. Ladies, on the other hand, if these tweets are to be believed it looks like the Hallo Berlin Cart (on the SW corner of 54th & 5th) is the place to be!

Is Carnegie John’s Cart MIA?

Carnegie John's, Midtown NYCIt looks like the Kosher Oasis cart is back on 47th and 6th today, so we can move on to far more important matters… this comment on the post about the Carnegie John’s Cart (on 56th & 7th Ave.): “Did Carnegie John pack it in?  It’s closing in on a month and a half and no burgers….” A few weeks could be a vacation.  Over a month smells like a permit issue. Or something worse.  Let’s hope this isn’t permanent.  Anybody have any intel?  Put it in the comments, or email zach@midtownlunch.com

Treats Truck and Miss Softee Team Up to Make Ultimate Ice Cream Sandwich

mashup

Ask and ye shall receive!!! Miss Softee (who we profiled on Tuesday, from the Queen Frostine crew) has teamed up with the Treats Truck to create an ice cream sandwich! A squirt of soft serve, sandwiched between two (delicious) Treats Truck chocolate chip cookies.  Amazing… don’t let the weather discourage you from this one.  I love it when insane dreams become a reality.  Oh, and did I mention it’s only $4 (which is a great deal considering the two cookies alone from the Treats Truck would cost $2.)

Check out a photo of this wonderful creation after the jump…

Navigating Mantao Chinese Sandwiches, the Midtown Lunch Way

DSC03610

It’s been exactly a month since Mantao Chinese Sandwiches opened up on 53rd btw. 2+3rd.  I never got a chance to go to Province Chinese Canteen, its original Tribeca incarnation, but I had always heard good enough things that their move to Midtown got me pretty excited.  Plus, I like Chinese food… and I like sandwiches.  What could possibly be bad about this place?

New Location Updates: Maoz, Schnitzel Express, & Five Guys

DSC03854

The fancy signage has gone up for Schnitzel Express, the fast food Glatt Kosher replacing City Burger on 39th just east of Broadway. It doesn’t look like much is being done to the interior, so they hope to be open in a week and a half to two weeks. Of course this news is much less exciting now that the Schnitzel & Things truck appears to be spending Mondays and Tuesdays in Midtown.

As for the new locations of Maoz Vegetarian and Five Guys, those look like they will take a bit longer. Photos and estimated dates, are after the jump.

Hot Dog Cart Eviction Leads to More Questions: When a hot dog vendor fails to pay his $53,000 a month rent to the city, and gets evicted from his spot in front of the The Met, a few questions come to mind (naturally.)  Slate attempts to answer a few of them, like "He paid how much!?!" and "Seriously? Are you sure he paid that much?"

Cartwatch: Kosher Oasis Disappears, Reappears, Disappears Again

DSC03874

The Kosher Oasis cart, which appeared briefly back in December on 44th & 6th, reappeared earlier in the week on the SW corner of 47th & 6th.  I stopped by yesterday to sample their menu of schnitzel, falafel, hot dogs and hamburgers, and they had disappeared once again.  If you spot this cart, let us know in the comments (can you believe they’re not on twitter yet!?!)   I did discover the other day that they are owned by the same people who own the Brooklyn location of Burgers Bar. I had never heard of it, but apparently it’s a very large Israeli hamburger chain which has a few locations here in NYC.  Anybody ever been?  If it’s good, it might bode well for the burgers from this cart… that is, if it ever returns.

UPDATE: The cart parks on 47th btw. 6+7th every day but Wednesdays.  On Wednesday it has been parking on 49th btw. 6+7th.
