    not a bad deal.

Sick deal. I can get my leafy greens and a protein lunch going again.

C'mon folks, this is still BS crap (and for a limited time only). The Bistro 49 has, for just $1 more, a salad deal with UNLIMITED ingredients (not just a "main ingredient," 2 "items," and a bunch of crap toppings). Their salads include your choice of ANY/ALL of: grilled chicken, breaded chicken, spicy shrimp, tuna tartare, ham and turkey cubes, egg, feta cheese, mozzarella balls, 2-3 types of grated cheese, stuffed grape leaves, mandarin oranges, various nuts, plus the usual tomatoes (sliced or cherry), cukes, chickpeas, bamboo shoots, 'shrooms, shredded carrots, peppers, etc. etc. etc. This is a huge, heavy and optionally protein-loaded salad, good for 2 meals.

Get there early. Some ingredients run out by 1 or 1:30, and they close down at 2.

I wrote about this a while back here. The Cafe Metro "deal" is lame in comparison.

Just saw that the Cafe Metro "deal" is for online orders only, and they exclude 3 key midtown locations. At Bistro 49, you can watch your salad being prepared, and even ask for extra portions of any ingredient. And the fact that they don't offer a "chopped" version is a plus.

    WHERE IS BISTRO 49???

  7. Steve

not everyone works near Bistro 49 or has stock in the place.

  8. stevenp

"Steve," no, I don't own stock in B49 but it is a MUCH better deal than Cafe Metro. And not everyone works near one of the 'eligible' CM locations either. Thanks for the snark; now back to your cubicle while I enjoy this beautiful day outside.

Bistro 49 is on the north side of 49th, just west of Park. Those who check it out (their mongolian bbq, udon, and other items are really good too) will thank me while "Steve" continues to munch on his sour grapes.

Seriously, take a long lunch and try Bistro 49 one day. Their salad is really that good. After eating there (when I worked nearby), I laugh at people lined up for salads at places like Chopt and emptying their wallets for a few scraps of food in a big plastic bowl. Bistro 49 salads are *heavy*.

OK. mea culpa and apologies to the MLers who read this thread. I was in midtown yesterday and decided to stop by B49 for a mondo salad and... it was gone. The whole massive multifaceted mega-deli was no longer there (next to the ING cafe).

So, no more great salad deal (or decent udon and mongolian bbq) in that area anymore. Does anyone know of a similar *really good* salad deal? (I'm talking about real unlimited toppings, not just "1 meat" or "2 'items'"!)

  12. stevenp

BTW, Steve, my stock options in B49 are now worthless. :^(

  13. Steve

at least its a capital write off.

i guess selling "heavy" salads for cheap isn't profitable.
