Midtown Was Better When the Fat Boys were Around

Saw this video in the ML forums and just had to post it for everybody to see.  The Fat Boys… in Midtown… at an all you can eat buffet… for $3.99!  Amazing.  I saw Krush Groove years ago, and am a huge Disorderlies fan (how could you not be), but the Sbarro’s all you can eat scene takes on a whole new significance after lunch’ing in Midtown for 4 years.  It’s too bad Sbarro’s sucks now.  (Although $4 all you can eat is probably the one thing that would get me into that place…) Thanks to Lunch’er “Wellerfan” for sharing.

Check out the video after the jump.

Treats Truck Up on 55th Again

The Treats Truck has been forced from her regular Thursday spot (on 38th and 5th), so you can find her up on 55th btw. Mad+Park next to the Papa Perrone Truck for the second time in the past two weeks. She’ll be there until 3pm, so if you work in the area, and want to see her back in this spot, I’d go out and buy some treats today!

Checking Out the New 99 Cent Pizza Place in K-Town

DSC00012

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for a 99 cent slice of pizza.  To my way of thinking most slices in Midtown are frankly mediocre, so I’d rather not pay $2.75-$3.00 for a sub par piece of pizza when I could pay 99 cents instead.  Alas working in the Rock Center area, I’m a little cut off from the sub $1 slice love (at least until the new branch of 2 Bros rolls into the Diamond District later this spring).  When I heard that there was a deli in K-Town serving up 99 cent slices on 33rd street, just two subway stops away, I knew that I had to check it out.

Who Wants Lunch at NBC’s Fancy Food Cart? We’ve Got Tix For One Lucky Lunch’er

You still have a couple of more days to win a lunch from NBC’s food truck, which will visit undisclosed locations on Monday Feburary 8th with Chefs Daniel Boulud, Alain Ducasse, Michael White, and Paul Liebrandt in tow.  But there have been some complaints in the comments about the difficulty of the quiz… so we managed to snag a pair of passes for one lucky Midtown Lunch’er. The locations haven’t been released yet, but the passes will be for the lunchtime slot (Noon to 2pm).  And we’ll make it easy for you to boot.  Just post a comment below explaining why you should be the one who gets passes, and you’re entered to win.  A winner will be drawn at random tomorrow (Friday) at 3pm.  Limit one entry per person.  Good luck!

Do I Look Fat in This?: Forgot to post this link before I left for L.A... ML friend James Boo came out to my last lunch at the Jamaican Dutchy last week, and posted about it on his blog The Eaten Path. He posted two photos of me, which looked at together somehow managed to make me look like a midget, and a gigantic fat slob, all in one post.

Times Square Hot Bagels Bacon Cheddar Cream Cheese Fail

Bagel with Times Square Hot Bagels Bacon & Cheddar Cream Cheese

Ever since the Lenny’s toasting surcharge debacle, I’ve been following fellow Midtown Luncher giants’ tip and getting my bagels with cream cheese from Times Square Hot Bagels.  They make pretty solid bagels and I appreciate their lack of surcharge drama–they don’t even charge you extra for egg whites!–and their variety of cream cheeses.  The other day I decided to deviate from my standard order to try the bacon & cheddar cream cheese.  I love bacon.  I love cheddar.  I love cream cheese.  How could that triple threat not make for a big time win?

Big Gay Hooters Field Trip: Mamacita seemed to enjoy herself at the Midtown Hooters back in April, but she didn't have ice cream royalty with her! Serious Eats New York had as unbiased a meal as possible at Hooters last week with Bryan and Doug from the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, and they seemed to really enjoy the wings.

Late Lunch $5 Deal at Yips

IMG00026-20100202-2001

Last week we reported that Yips had added some noodle soups, and this week they’ve upped the ante (for those of you who can manage to wait until after 3:30pm for lunch, or are looking for an early dinner.)   Lunch’er “Owen” sent along this photo… which is pretty self explanatory.  And on a day like today, a $5 “second lunch” soup sounds like a fantastic idea!
