We’re hearing from the good folks over at Murray’s Salami, in the Grand Central Terminal Market, that they will be giving out free samples of Jamón Ibérico de Bellota on Thursday November 13th (tomorrow) from 3 to 7 p.m. I’m sure the samples will be small, but at $100 a pound, I’ll take whatever they’re willing to give.

I dreaded dragging my ass out of bed early enough to make it to Crumbs (on Madison btw. 52+53rd) at 8 a.m. this morning for their free cupcake giveaway (I don’t even like cupcakes that much)… but luckily Dessert Buzz did it for me! “As of 8:45 a.m… there is no line.” Maybe these 1000 cupcakes will last a little longer than we thought…

Grub Street is reporting that Crumbs will finally be doing their 1000 cupcake giveaway this Friday at three different stores in Manhattan- including the new Midtown location on Madison and 52nd. Only one catch: none of the stores have been told yet. A call to the Madison location (in particular) got this response: “Uh… I don’t think so. It may be on the 6th but we haven’t received confirmation from our corporate offices yet.” Wow. I think Crumbs is on track to win the most disorganized company in all of Midtown award.
As you know, the last “Free 1000 Cupcake” thing ended up turning into a “free samples at random times” thing. Hopefully corporate will let the stores know in time for us to enjoy free cupcakes on Friday morning!

Election Day Free Food May Be Illegal: Gawker has pointed out that the "free stuff if you vote" promotions going on election day might actually be illegal. Something about bribing people to vote... and imprisonment... blah blah blah. To avoid any legal issues, I'm guessing most of the places will just give you the free stuff whether you voted or not. All I know is, if anybody stands between me and my free doughnut it's going to get ugly.

Election Day is shaping up to be a freeloaders dream. We’ve already reported about the free Ben & Jerry’s from 5 to 8 p.m. for anybody who votes, and two more chains are getting in on the action. You will also be able to get a free Krispy Kreme donut and a free tall cup of coffee from Starbucks, all for voting. If only my voting location was inside Penn Station, it would make tomorrow a whole lot easier…

Today’s Free Pret Lunch is Confirmed: This morning in the comments: "I just went over to the new Pret Location at 44th and 3rd. They’ve started giving out flyers for a 'free lunch'. Good till gone." Showing up after 1 p.m. without a flier has worked for some in the past, but there's no guarantee.

It looks like the new Pret a Manger (on 3rd Ave. btw. 44+45th) is scheduled to open on Monday, which means they should be doing one of their free sandwich lunch giveaways on Friday. I say “should” because there is no official confirmation, but I’m hearing rumors from Pret employees that Friday is the day. If you work in the area, it may be worth walking by in the morning to see if they’re giving out the free sandwich fliers they kind of require you to have- although in the past we’ve heard of people walking up during the promotion and still getting the free lunch. Usually they hand out the fliers between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., and the free lunches are given away between 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. (with extras being given out around 1:30 p.m.) If anybody gets official confirmation (i.e. somebody standing outside the store handing out coupons/fliers) comment below or email zach@midtownlunch.com

Free Kyotofu Samples: It's just out of the Midtown Lunch boundaries, but if you find yourself eating lunch on 9th Avenue today than Kyotofu (the Japanese dessert bar/bakery/tofu place on 9th btw. 48+49th) will be giving out free samples of some of their new desserts in honor of their one year Annniversary. Enjoy freeloaders.

Last week, Grub Street called it selling out, but as far as Midtown Lunch is concerned, free food is free food. Today, the Dessert Truck will be at two new locations handing out small samples of desserts they’ve crafted using a specific brand of pomegranate liquor. The truck will be at 40th St btw. 6th+B’way from 4:05 to 4:25pm, and then at 36th St btw. 8+9th from 4:40 to 5pm. Normal Park Ave. operations have been suspended for the day. The freebies are actually part of a private thing for media companies in the area- but we got permission to make the two Midtown stops open to the public! Enjoy, freeloaders… (and get there early if you can, because supplies are limited.)
