Goodburger To Open By Columbus Circle

Good Burger 8th Ave btw W 57+58

A new Goodburger (on 8th Ave. btw. 57+58th) is coming soon to the Columbus Circle area! I’ll admit, I’ve not yet walked into one of these places (I’m more of a Shake Shack kind of girl), but I have always been curious about the “Steak & Egg” burger. No word on when it will open.

Choice Eats Gives Midtown the Cold Shoulder Once Again

_MG_7552

It’s a familiar story at this point: Another year, another Choice Eats that sadly neglects the restaurants of midtown. This was my first year attending and I was honestly surprised at how few Midtown offerings there were. In past years, Margon flew the flag for the underrepresented, but this year, the only restaurant to fall within Midtown Lunch boundaries was Toloache, with just out of bounds Xie Xie and Mantou Chinese Sandwiches rounding out the Midtown selections.

It was disappointing from a Midtown Lunch’ing standpoint, but there was plenty of other deliciousness to stuff my face with. After the jump, some of my favorites.

Free Ice Cream Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s (and Free Morning Pastry at Starbucks)

Thanks to Lunch’er “Gargupie” for reminding us in the forums.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) is free cone day at Ben & Jerry’s!!! From Noon to 8pm, everybody who goes to Ben & Jerry’s will get a free scoop of ice cream… any flavor you want.  Now that the 8th Ave. location is closed, there are only two spots in Midtown left to score this deal:  the Rock Center Concourse, and the Ben & Jerry’s on the 4th floor of Macy’s (they’re not listed on the website, but we called and confirmed- they are participating.)  And don’t be scared off by the long lines.  These guys are pros… they move real fast. Freeloaders engage.

UPDATE: And thanks to “locoandcoco” for pointing this out in the comments.  There will also be free pastries at Starbucks before 10:30am with this coupon.

Midtown vs. Los Angeles: Zach seems to be enjoying himself out in L.A. He's already found amazing Thai food, Korean/Chinese food, and (surprisingly) some ok pizza.   But at least we can take pleasure in knowing that the Jamaican Dutchy and the Jerk Pan wipe the floor with what passes for a Jamaican cart on the west coast.

Pro Hot Korean Closed Until April 19th

“Pro Bagel”? What is this 2007!?

Lunch’er Wellerfan checks in to let us know that Pro Hot Korean (on 56th btw. 5+6th) will be closed until April 19th for “emergency repairs to the building”. (Apparently the dry cleaners next door is effected as well.) This is sad news for cheap Korean food lovers on the northern borders of Midtown, although good news for the new “modern” Korean spot on the same block.

Two Boots Celebrates 10th Anniversary With a Meat Filled Spicy Pizza

No. 6 Two Boots

Hard to believe, but Two Boots’ outpost in Grand Central has been around for 10 years-far outlasting the one in Rock Center. For their anniversary celebration they debuted the No. 6 last week, which includes pecorino, provolone, capicola, sopressata, peperoncini and roasted peppers, and I can vouch that it’s got a spicy kick to it. But that’s not all! They also launched some ‘Fat Tuesday’ specials last week: the Swampwich pizza (yes, alligator sausage is involved), the Stromolaya (or a jambalaya stuffed stromboli), 2-for-1 Hurricanes (how Mamacita and I will pre-game before tomorrow’s happy hour), and copious amounts of no flashing required Mardi Gras beads. Maybe all this will make up for how bad their muffuletta is.

Don’t Let the Weather Keep You From Schnitzel: The ML Twitter Tracker is full of hits and misses today... Street Sweets and Cupcake Stop truck are not going out today, but Schnitzel and Things will be trying a new spot near 57th Street near Broadway. (Clearly they're not going to stay in the week after being featured on Time Magazine's website!)

Midtown Gets a Pizza “Speakeasy”?

Pre-57 Napoli Pizza e Vino storefrontGrub Street reported last week that the C’est Bon Cafe (on 57th btw. Park+Lex) has opened 57 Napoli Pizza e Vino a new “pizza speakeasy” in the 2nd floor space above their cafe. Sadly the menu is mostly out of the Midtown Lunch price range, and it looks strikingly similar to the pizza offerings that have always been on the menu at C’est Bon.  But I have to say we are still kind of curious. Has anybody tried the pizza at this place?  (The new place on the 2nd floor or the original.) Let us know what you think in the comments…

Will America’s Next Great Restaurant Come From You?: Wonder what kind of people showed up for NBC's "Next Great Restaurant" auditions in Rock Center on Friday?  Feast was there, and interviewed a bunch of people in line.  And one of them you might recognize as a fellow Midtown Lunch'er! (Sadly, his idea wasn't for a Thai food street cart.)
