At Lunch Now: Tie Made Out of Post Its Will Get You a Free Waffle

wafels_tie

Didn’t see our tweet last night to wear yellow? (Or saw it, but ignored us?!) That doesn’t mean you can’t get a free waffle today. Check out this genius who fashioned a tie out of light yellow post it notes! Also spotted, a necklace made out of what looks like construction paper.

Check that one out after the jump…

Jamaican Mac & Cheese!?!

Following Zach’s mediocre L.A. Jamaican food truck experience, Jamie discovers one in Philly that serves stew chicken over mac and chese!?! Are you joking?  We need to get the Jamaican Dutchy on this. Can anybody say “Tuesday special”?

Fox News: Food Trucks Are Great… Unless They’re Parked in Front of Our Building

Reports are pouring in from 48th and 6th, where apparently the Schnitzel & Things Truck is being asked to leave by the cops. From Lunch’er “Joseph”:

Cops told the Schnitzels people that once they were done serving people in line, they had to close up. Apparently (according to the owner), it was because Fox was complaining about the truck being in their space.

I see. So trucks are an exciting new trend, and a commendable small business… until the cameras are turned off. 48th and 6th… isn’t that the same spot Fox News does all their “street trucks are great!” interview pieces?

The ML Team Eats Through the Entire Grand Central Oyster Bar Take Out Menu

Oyster Bar at Grand Central

Grand Central’s Oyster Bar take out window has been a longtime staple of the Midtown Lunch Lenten coverage- after all, nothing says Fat Tuesday like a nice Fried Oyster Po’ Boy. And yet it still remains one of the more underrated, under-reported gems of the New York lunching scene.  We couldn’t believe there has never been an official full +/-, so last Friday six of us converged on Grand Central to try each and every ML priced item on the menu.

DSC00011

Towards the end of last year Zach reported that Teriyaki Boy was doing a $3.99 lunch special in honor of their 20th anniversary for the entire month of December. Well, December has come and gone, but the $3.99 lunch special remains. Here’s what you get for less than a Lincoln…

Wondering About The Wings?: Curious about the chicken wings that NYC Cravings started serving again last week?  Phude NYC waited in the rain to try them, and seems to be a big fan (plus they look frickin' delicious.)  If you want to check them out for yourself, the Cravings Truck will be on 53rd btw. Park+Lex today.

Contributor Stalking: Wonder what our new ML contributors do when they're not eating in Midtown? (They're pretty easy to stalk!) Blondie and Brownie had dim sum at Golden Unicorn this past weekend, Ultraclay was at Cochon 555, Danny hit up Levain, Jason had some polish food, and it was Amy's Birthday yesterday!

Another Sign of Summer: Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Returneth

Choinkwich

Late last week one of New York City’s favorite trucks, Big Gay Ice Cream tweeted that they would be returning soon, and now we have confirmation! Next Thursday, April 1st, it will be choinkwiches and Nutella sandwiches galore. No word though on where the first spot will be, but there is an open one very close to my office. Last season they had no trouble parking in Midtown at night, but never seem to find a spot that “worked” during the day.  Be sure to keep an eye on the MLTwitter Tracker for this one.

Everybody Agrees, Midtown Pizza Sucks: I won't even pretend to be smart enough to understand anything about this New York Pizza report put together by statistics consultant and Columbia Grad student Jared Lander. But there is one thing that was pretty clear: average people think the pizza in Midtown sucks... and I'm pretty sure the experts agree.
