Lenten Lunch: Looking for a non-meat lunch today?  Here are some good suggestions. Also, Jiannetto's Pizza (on 47th btw. Park+Lex) is hawking their shrimp parm heroes and vodka pizza over on the ML Twitter Tracker.

Flatiron Lunch: Great Burrito’s Tacos Are Better Than Their Burritos (Go Figure)

Now that Downtown has its very own section of the site, what are we going to post on Fridays at 10am? Answer… how about a new column devoted to those lunches just south of the ML boundaries. Please give a warm welcome to Jason Lam from the blog Me So Hungry. Every Friday at 10am he’ll post about lunches in Murray Hill south, Grammercy, Flatiron, and everything in between… or as we’ll call it from now on: Flatiron Lunch.

Now that Zach’s out in L.A. eating amazing tacos in the sunshine, how about some taco love for our city in the snow? When my Californian friends tell me that a good taco in New York is nowhere to be found, I’d ask where they’re looking. They’d say, “You know, all you guys have is Chipotle.” Then I’d suggest they take a visit to many of the great Latino neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens. Or even closer, the eleven-floor elevator ride down from my office to the Great Burrito in Manhattan.

Kyochon Delayed Again?: On Monday we reported that Kyochon would be opening its flagship branch (on 5th Ave. btw. 32+33rd) on Wednesday.  On Wednesday the New York Time reported it was opening on Friday.  Now Eater is saying that it's not opening until next week.  I think we'll still walk by today just to double check...

Blogger Proclaims Cafe Duke’s Pizza “The Best”

Bold (and often ridiculous) food claims are what NYC Food Guy (aka Lunch’er Lawerence aka Superman) is all about, so we’ll take this one with a grain of salt.  Apparently the spicy chicken pizza from Cafe Duke (on 51st btw. 6+7th) is the best non-restaurant pizza in all of Midtown. Now, you know we love their Korean food…. and their fake shrimp… and their occasional soft shelled crabs.  But is this really the best we can do for pizza?  Feel free to defend or refute his claim in the comments.

Burrito Protest?: From @jesuisuba: "A group of people from Oaxaca in midtown just walked by carrying 'Love Thy Burrito' signs chanting something about hotdogs." Uh, we would love your burritos if they bore even the slightest resemblance to the phenomenal cuisine of the state to which your name claims to represent. Till then, blotched free burrito coupons and promotional protests ain't going to cut it. Pass the dirty water dog, please.

How to Eat at 10 Carts For $10: A Thursday Street Food Tour of Midtown

food cart tour collage
Have you ever been kind of jealous of the winners of Zach’s various cart tours?  Even though I work in midtown and can hit the great midtown carts anytime I want, there’s something to be said about the fun of taking on a bunch of them at once.  To really do it right you need strength in numbers, so when I learned that a couple of my friends from Seattle, would be in town and free for lunch during the week, I started plotting potential food adventures.  Both of them regularly read Blondie & Brownie and they were jealous of the midtown cart/food truck scene.  The more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that we should try to hit as many carts for as many different types of foods as possible and with that in mind, may a present Brownie’s Cart Canyon Tour: 10 carts/10 cuisines/$10 a person…

Cer Te’s Boneless Buffalo Wing Sandwich is Another Winner (Despite the Terrible Name)

The Fall of Saigon

Monday brought the oddly named new March Midtown Lunch sandwich at Cer Te, “The Fall of Saigon.” I’ll say it… the name’s no good. I don’t know what it should be called, but definitely not this. Maybe Hanoi Matthew instead? Or The Matthew? Or All That’s Missing is a Beer?

Whatever you call it, the thing is damn tasty.

Yushi Introduces “Sake Ramen” To the Menu

Yushi (on 47th btw. Park+Lex) has always been about the craziness (conveyor belt sushi, dim sum, the new and improved refrigerated conveyor belt, peking duck days, and bogo free greatest hits bentos.)  But this could be the best of the lot: according to Urbandaddy they’ve just started serving an off the menu bowl of ramen covered in a glass of sake (!?) We are so on this… but should it be a lunch or a Happy Hour post?  Early adopters, let us know what you think in the comments.

Midtown Dumpling Fail: Is it just me or does it seem like Downtown and L.A. are ganging up on us today?  Chris posted about Fried Dumpling, where he downed a "jury duty lunch" of 25 (!?!) dumplings for $5.  And Zach posted about the brand new Dim Sum Truck in Los Angeles.  Uh...yeah... we get it. Dumplings in Midtown suck.  Leave us alone to sulk.
