99 Miles to Philly is Closed: This just in thanks to lunch'er "ecoli":  The just out of bounds location of 99 Miles to Philly that opened on 2nd Ave. and 52nd Street has closed.  It looks like the original EV location is still open, which means that it's just this space that's cursed.  Zip Burger barely lasted two years in the same spot, and- I don't know if you know this but- hamburgers are really popular in NYC.

Buffet Lunch Goes for 1.68 Million: I would totally pay almost 2 million bucks to own my own lunch buffet!  That would be amazing.  What's that? It's lunch *with* (Warren) Buffet that somebody paid $1.68 million for? Oh...  nevermind. [via David Carr's twitter]

Helado Vendors Fight Too: It's not in Midtown, but the story sounds familiar enough.  The New York Times had an interesting article on Friday about the fierce competition for spots among helado vendors in the Bronx. Speaking of helado, anybody ever seen one of these vendors in Midtown? Nothing like a $1 coco helado in the summertime. [via Gothamist]

After Work Arepa: Just noticed this on twitter: "GCT Food Fair: 43rd btw Lex and 3rd, 10-6 today."  I could definitely use a late afternoon arepa!  Sorry for the late notice...

Free Pinkberry Alert: Today (Friday 6/26) from 5 to 9pm Pinkberry will be giving free swirls of their two new flavors, Coconut and Passionfruit.  There are 4 semi-Midtown locatons: 2nd btw. 54+55th, 58th btw. 8+9th, 9th Ave. btw. 42+43rd, and, of course, Koreatown on 32nd btw. B'way+5th. Freeloaders, engage.

Baseball Fans: This was posted in the ML Forums yesterday: Daniel Murphy & Joba Chamberlain will be in Pershing Square at Noon today giving away premium tickets to this weekend's Subway Series. Get more info here.

In the ML Forums: Here's what lunchers are talking about in the forums right now...

Speaking of Biryani: Yesterday's New York Times dining section had a great Under $25 piece about finding good biryani in New York City. It suggested a few places that do it right, and included Midtown Lunch fave the Biryani Cart! (On 46th & 6th)  I wonder what the author would have thought of the Trini Paki Boys' biryani.

BREAKING: La Cense Burger Truck Has Arrived: This just in... The La Cense Burger Truck has been spotted setting up on 48th and Park, and plans to be open for business today from 11am to 3pm.  Early adopters, feel free to report back in the comments. (Although considering this is their first time trying to park in Midtown, you might want to check their Twitter for any updates.)

You Broke My Heart Mario: From the Vendy Award website: "We just received the sad news that Mario Batali has an unexpected conflict and can’t be part of this year’s Vendys - but hopes to join us next year. We will keep you posted as we get more information." The Street Meat Palooza 2 deal still stands, though.
