Free Cupcake Alert: According to this, the Cupcake Stop Truck is doing some sort of event on 46th btw. 5+6th today with Dress Barn (!?)  Why do we care?  Free strawberry minis from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, that's why! Check their twitter account or the ML Twitter Tracker to confirm before heading out.

McCormick & Schmick’s Has NYC’s Best Food Happy Hour Ever

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

I thought finding bargain happy hours around Rockefeller would be impossible. Most of the best deals I’ve reviewed are usually on the boundaries of midtown, away from the tourists, corporate offices, and ritzy steakhouses, not smack dab in the heart of the Radio City Spectacular and near the bright lights of Broadway! ML favorites tend to be dive bars with free hotdogs or cheap wings. However, I’ve found $1 oysters at an expensive lobster restaurant and an incredible burger plus cocktail special at a chic bar and grill. Now McCormick & Schmick has reared its delicious head to, again, prove that dives are not our only solace here on ML.

The name McCormick & Schmick sounds like a legal firm not like a seafood restaurant, and you’d also guess by the name that maybe this is a corporate hangout with more suits then a Jacoby and Myers. That may be true, but not only do they have one of the biggest and best bar menus, their specials aren’t for a limited time or anything new. They’ve had this happy hour going on for YEARS! How did they pass under the radar for so long? How could I have not noticed? Excuse me as I hang my head in shame.

Italian Ice Alert: In case you missed it this morning on the ML Twitter Tracker... it's not the best day for it, but Italian ices are back at the Papa Perrone Truck (on 55th btw. Park+Mad).  And if he's carrying the same brand he did last year that means Uncle Louie G has returned to Midtown!

Eggs Travaganza Lunch = Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dogs and Breakfast Burritos From a Cart

Eggs Travaganza menu

Good news, bacon, breakfast, and burrito lovers! As first reported by Lunch’er “Masto”, Eggs Travaganza (on NE corner of 52nd+Park) is now open for lunch til 2PM every weekday. The bacon-wrapped Cholula Dog screamed at us from the computer monitor saying “Pick me, pick me!” so, as a girl who follows her bacon-wrapped heart, I made a beeline for Eggs Travaganza to check it out. More than just bacon after the jump…

Midtown Khao Soi FTW!: We thought we were the only ones who knew about the Khao Soi at Talent Thai (on 34th btw. 2+3rd) but apparently not! Fork in the Road has put out a list of their 10 best noodle dishes in Manhattan and it's #8! Also included from Midtown, the Hiyashi Chuka (cold noodles) from Sapporo (on 49th btw. 6+7th) came in 3rd. Nice.

Flatiron Lunch: Get Buns & Congee From Jess Bakery

Now that Downtown has its very own section of the site, what are we going to post on Fridays at 10am? Answer… how about a new column devoted to those lunches just south of the ML boundaries. Please give a warm welcome to Jason Lam from the blog Me So Hungry. Every Friday at 10am he’ll post about lunches in Murray Hill south, Gramercy, Flatiron, and everything in between… or as we’ll call it from now on: Flatiron Lunch.

One thing I’m grateful for in New York is the easy access to a good Chinese steamed pork bun, one of my childhood favorites. Although most of the bakeries are in Chinatown, it’s good to know there’s one right on 23rd St near the School of Visual Arts. Not just a place to get a good steamed pork bun, but some other good food too.

Moshe’s Falafel Raises Prices

Moshe's Falafel

After a giving up fried foods for Lent, I had a post-Easter hankering for falafel, so I headed over to 46th street to hit up Moshe’s Falafel just back from their Passover hiatus. While waiting to place my order discovered that they’ve raised their prices across the board.

Market Still Closed; Tri Tip Grill Opening on Monday

So, despite all the PR hype, Blondie sends word that Market (in the Hyatt Grand Central) still hasn’t opened yet.  So we’re still not sure if this is going to be worthwhile for Midtown Lunch’ing purposes.  Tri Trip Grill, on the other hand, is right up our alley and after months of waiting is planning to open on Monday in the Rock Center Concourse.  If PR photos are your thing, Feast and Thrillist both have an inside look. And you can check out the full menu here.
