Midtown Lunch

It’s been just over a month since the NYC Cravings Truck made their Midtown debut, and while not all lunchers have been as gaga about the Taiwanese truck food as I, the crowds are still turning out Mondays (on 46th btw. 6+7th) and Fridays (on 53rd btw. Park+Lex.)  I’m a huge fan of their Taiwanese fried chicken w/ pork sauce covered rice, but since I originally wrote about it they’ve added tea eggs, pork chops, and tianbula (fish cake) to their menu.

So last week I returned to try the rest of the new additions.  (It’s a tough job, but somebody has got to do it.)

As if lunch today wasn’t a hard enough decision today.  Bacon implosion at Channel Four… the $9 lobster roll at Certe… and now this:  The NYC Cravings Truck is back today, and by popular demand they’ve added (a limited number of) pork chops ($7) and tea eggs ($1 each) to their menu.  The plan is to park on 52nd & Lex again, but they had a little trouble last week- so you should probably check their Twitter feed before heading out for some Taiwanese pork chop or fried chicken action. UPDATE: They are parked on 53rd btw. Park+Lex.

They were more prepared this week, but the NYC Cravings Taiwanese Fried Chicken Truck ran out of fried chicken at 1:45pm today (an hour longer than last Monday, the first day they parked on 45th btw 6+7th). You can still catch them Tuesdays on 24th and Park, but Thursdays and Fridays are up in the air- as is the question of when they’ll start serving pork chops!!! (I just made that up by the way… They have no pork chop plans, it’s just wishful thinking on my part.)

If you missed out on the Taiwanese fried chicken madness earlier in the week, the NYC Cravings Truck is parked on 52nd and Lexington today.  Since it’s their first time parking in this space, you might want to keep an eye on their Twitter for any updates. Getting there early might be a good move too… although hopefully they brought more chicken today than they did on Monday!

I have to give Danny from Food in Mouth full and complete credit for this one. On Friday he posted about the newest truck to hit the mobile food scene here in New York City: NYC Cravings. Terrible name… but the food sounded intriguing.  At the end of his post he begged them to come to Midtown for lunch, and yesterday they obliged- parking on 45th btw. 6+7th. Huge crowds turned out for their Taiwanese style fried chicken, served over rice with “a secret pork sauce” and by 1:15 they were out of food.

I was lucky enough to be there on the early side, and got to try what could be my new favorite truck in New York City.

In case there was any doubt before today, this picture should seal it: Midtown loves Chinatown style fried chicken from a truck. NYC Cravings, the new Taiwanese fried chicken truck parked in Midtown for the first time today (on 45th and 6th) and this was the scene at 1pm just before they informed the 30+ person line that there were only 18 orders of chicken left.

If you missed out, they’ll be at Park and 24th tomorrow- and have said that they plan on parking at this location in Midtown every Monday… which is great news, b/c I tried the chicken and it is pretty freakin awesome. A new powerhouse in the NYC food truck scene has arrived. Full report coming soon.

I guess all you have to do is ask! NYC Cravings, the new Chinese fried chicken and dumplings truck that Food in Mouth wrote about last week, is going to try and come to Midtown for lunch today. They are looking to park on 45th & 6th… but as we all know new trucks have trouble parking their first time in Midtown, so we’ll see what happens. Want to be the first to know where they end up?
