Cartwatch: What Happened to the Indian Fast Food Cart?

Good question!  The “Indian Fast Food” Cart was a classic.  Anybody seen it lately or know what happened to it?  Let us know in the comments…

Cart Watch: Little Morocco is Missing!?!

litte-morocco-cart

Terrible new for fans of the Little Morocco Cart, the popular street meat cart discovered a year ago this month on 39th and 7th. Lunch’er “Joan” tipped us off that the cart was missing today, replaced by a regular, run-of-the-mill street meat cart. Earlier this summer, Jeremiah discovered they took off fish and kofta from their menu due to lack of demand. Could the overall demand for their food be down as well? Let’s hope not!  Anybody have any more info?  Let us know in the comments…

Uncle Gussy’s Upgrades to a Truck?

From Lunch’er Jason:

Dear Midtown Lunch, I have been a loyal reader for the better part of the last 5 or 6 months, and this has been the tastiest half year of my life. I work at 51st and Park Ave, and today I saw a new truck on the corner of 50th and Park. It seemed to be a Greek style chicken/lamb and rice truck that also offered souvlaki. All of their dishes seem to come in the form of sandwiches too. I would have stopped for lunch had I not already mentally committed to a huarache from El Rey del Sabor. The attached picture is the truck in question. I’ve never seen it before and I was wondering if [anybody] may have additional information about this mysterious blue Greek truck.

We’re on the case Jason. In the meantime, has anybody already tried this cart? Let us know how it is in the comments. Turns out this truck is an oldie but goodie…

Cartwatch: Famous Dal Cart Now Parking in Midtown?

Last month Grub Street reported that a new cart, called the “Famous Dal Cart”, had popped up in the East Village serving up dal, chicken tikka masala, and biriyani.   Well, it appears as if yesterday the cart was spotted on the NW corner of 32nd and Park Ave. (According to owner, they couldn’t make it during lunch in the EV.)  Our man Clay went out this morning to track it down, but as of 11am the cart was nowhere to be found.  If anybody spots this cart today, let us know where it is in the comments…

Disappearing Dosa Cart Has Been Spotted

Apparently the Dosa Cart that was spotted on 39th and 7th a few weeks back and then promptly disappeared has moved one avenue East (or maybe it was always on 6th, who knows?) Bionic Bites twittered this photo yesterday, which we are pretty sure is from the NE Corner of 39th and 6th. Any dosa fans out there? Early adopters, let us know how this new cart is in the comments…

Cartwatch: Has Anybody Seen the 39th Street Dosa Cart?

Yesterday I headed over to check out the Dosa cart on 39th Street and 7th Avenue that “TheFatBaron” had posted about in the forums a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found. I asked one of the Halal vendors and he said the cart was there around 3 weeks ago but he hadn’t seen it since. With the turf wars that are all too common in these parts, we can’t help but wonder if the cart was forced to move by one of the other vendors in the area.  Then again, the weather hasn’t been very nice to unprotected vendors so maybe we can expect them back on the corner next week?  Has anybody seen this cart?  Let us know in the comments.

Cart Watch: Hallo Berlin Has Been Missing for Months

It appears as if the Hallo Berlin Cart (on 54th and 5th) has gone and disappeared.  Lunch’er “Rootbeer” commented the other day that it hasn’t been seen in months, and the same discussion popped up on Yelp as well. Hallo Berlin co-founder Rolf Babiel passed away this past October, but the cart returned shortly thereafter with his brother at the helm. And this isn’t their usual July vacation time either. If anyone has any insight, leave it in the comments. For now I guess we’ll have to settle for Hallo Berlin Express (on 9th Ave. btw. 50+51st)

Is Carnegie John’s Cart MIA?

Carnegie John's, Midtown NYCIt looks like the Kosher Oasis cart is back on 47th and 6th today, so we can move on to far more important matters… this comment on the post about the Carnegie John’s Cart (on 56th & 7th Ave.): “Did Carnegie John pack it in?  It’s closing in on a month and a half and no burgers….” A few weeks could be a vacation.  Over a month smells like a permit issue. Or something worse.  Let’s hope this isn’t permanent.  Anybody have any intel?  Put it in the comments, or email zach@midtownlunch.com

Cartwatch: Kosher Oasis Disappears, Reappears, Disappears Again

DSC03874

The Kosher Oasis cart, which appeared briefly back in December on 44th & 6th, reappeared earlier in the week on the SW corner of 47th & 6th.  I stopped by yesterday to sample their menu of schnitzel, falafel, hot dogs and hamburgers, and they had disappeared once again.  If you spot this cart, let us know in the comments (can you believe they’re not on twitter yet!?!)   I did discover the other day that they are owned by the same people who own the Brooklyn location of Burgers Bar. I had never heard of it, but apparently it’s a very large Israeli hamburger chain which has a few locations here in NYC.  Anybody ever been?  If it’s good, it might bode well for the burgers from this cart… that is, if it ever returns.

UPDATE: The cart parks on 47th btw. 6+7th every day but Wednesdays.  On Wednesday it has been parking on 49th btw. 6+7th.

Happy Well Being House is MIA: Everybody's new favorite Korean fried fish and bulgogi cart has been missing for the past three days. If you have any information on the Happy Well Being House Cart, which parks on 50th btw. 6+7th, please post it in the forums.
