The New TSQ Brasserie Serves Up Cheap Drinks In the Neon Glow Of Times Square

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every week our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Like many great journalistic endeavors, ML began with a mission statement, “Finding Lunch in the Food Wasteland that is NYC’s Midtown.” This being the case I dare you to find me a better example of all we stand against then the flashing, glittering, craptastic nexus of overpriced tourist eye candy mediocrity that is Times Square. Seriously, it’s enough to drive a girl to drink. And drink I did! The new TSQ caught my eye and so did their happy hour, so I dived in.

Wafels & Dinges Now Selling Speculoos Ice Cream!

Wafels & Dinges

This week’s Twitter Tracker has been abuzz with news of W&D’s new speculoos ice cream. Seeing as Blondie and I were among the original proponents of ice cream dinges back in the day, I had to go check this out.

Underneath the Generic Look, Omar’s Kitchen & Bakery Serves Up Tasty Food

Omar's Kitchen & Bakery

Lunch’er Joer tipped us off on a brand new place that serves Mediterranean food. Omar’s Kitchen and Bakery (55th btw. Lex+3rd) just opened couple days ago seems like a very generic place. But don’t let that fool you because the sandwich that I got packed loads of great flavors. As I was leaving, I told one of the workers that I’ll definitely be back and I wasn’t lying.

Flatiron Lunch: Mikey’s Burger makes every week burger week – for now

Every Friday our man UltraClay goes south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

_MG_8243 - Version 2

Last week, I ended up at Defonte’s because I was looking for Baorrito and couldn’t find it. It had been several months and I wanted to finally give the basil beef burrito a try. Turns out, much like various other parts of the ‘Bao’ empire, it disappeared with no warning and became something else.

Now, it’s Mikey’s Burger, the second location of a shop down in the Lower East Side – at least it was there, who knows? It might be a Vietnamese schnitzel shop by now. Actually, that’d be interesting…

In any case, it being burger week, I could hardly walk away without giving a try, so I went back to check it out.

Coolhaus Free This Weekend, Official Launch Imminent?: L.A.'s famous ice cream truck Coolhaus didn't launch on April 15th but they've teamed up with Firefox to give away ice cream sandwiches all weekend long.  Today they're in Soho, tomorrow they'll be on 43rd and 6th, Sunday Union Sq., and Monday in on 24th & Madison (12-4pm each day). A lot of good that does us!  But hopefully this means the truck will be launching soon.

File This Under “Who Knew?”: We've never been huge fans of the burgers from La Cense Burger Truck, but Serious Eats hit them up the other day and discovered that the truck is now serving philly cheesesteak sandwiches, and apparently they're delicious.

Miss Softee’s Birthday Cake Cone is a Nice Little Treat

Birthday Cake Cone

One of Miss Softee’s new specials this season is the Birthday Cake, and with the recent mild weather promising a hot summer, it’s should definitely be in your ice cream rotation. And that can totally happen because this isn’t one of those fancy decadent specials.  Only $3, it involves vanilla cake mix being sprinkled on your soft serve to give it that birthday cake taste. Apparently this is what a very famous cold marble franchise uses to make their batter ice cream. After the dusting, Miss Softee tries to get a few sprinkles to stick on there. This is the perfect little treat if you want more than a cone, but don’t want to go over the top. It’s been offered pretty much every day since the beginning of the season, but double check Twitter before you head on over.

Follow Miss Softee and her team on Twitter (@rollingcones) or check out the ML Twitter Tracker.
