My American Check List

Though I have to work all weekend, I am trying to get in the Independence Day spirit by thinking about my favorite all-American lunches.

  1. Hot DogsHot Diggity is the obvious choice here, though a pastrami topped knish dog from Hershel’s does our country proud.
  2. BurgersGrace Tavern for a classic burger, Good Dog for a local favorite, PYT if you want to get crazy.
  3. Pie- Newbie Magpie is a good bet. But the best part is the filling right? Get just the good stuff at AJ’s
  4. BBQBlue Belly and Percy Street come out on top on my list. (Fette Sau, new and popular, did not do it for me)
  5. Ice Cream- Foam Floaterie, Little Baby’s, and I am especially proud that Capogiro gives Italian gelato a run for its money.
  6. Beer– Khyber Pass Pub and American Sardine Bar have a great selection and prices. But nothing beats the weekly special at Locust Rendezvous.

Or, just say screw it and go to Chinatown

What are your American favorites?

Fancy Food Show 2013

No lunch today, in NYC enjoying the Fancy Food Show. If you are lucky enough to be able to get in, don’t miss it! It is an endurance testing marathon getting though the rows of exhibitors. Meats, cheese, olive oil, and chocolate were most prevalent. Check out some pictures of the event from my “photographer” (sister).

City Hall Courtyard Now a Permanent Spot for Food Trucks

Exciting news! As some of you may know, food trucks are banned on most streets in Center City. Until now, LOVE Park was the main centrally located venue to get your food truck fix. From the hard work of the PMFA and the city, including the very successful courtyard day a few months back, the rotating trucks will now be a daily occurrence.

The rotating list of trucks includes some ML favorites and some we haven’t yet had the pleasure of trying:

Pitruco
Mucho Bueno
Lil Dan
Guerrilla Ultima
Street Food Philly
Local 215
Sweet Box
Dapper Dog
Vernalicious
Baguette Philly
Farm Truck
Cupcake Carnivale
Mini Trini

This is a big day for local business and the people who support them!
