Is Free Golosi on Tax Day A Sham?: "I decided to give Golosi a shot today. Noone working there knew about the buy 1″ get 1″ free special, but there is some sort of free gelato coupons they give with pizza orders." Oh boy... here we go again. I called the location but they're not answering. Anybody get free pizza today? UPDATE: PR person wrote in to the deal is being honored for all slices... The earlier problems were a staff mix-up.

Tax Day is Free Food Day in Midtown

A couple of deals worth mentioning for tax day tomorrow (Wednesday, 4/15): Golosi, the new pizza by the inch place on Park Ave. btw. 41+42nd, is offering buy one get one free scoops of gelato and buy some pizza, get the same amount free (minimum 3″ purchase) from 11am to 9 pm. And if you are willing travel a bit out of bounds, Supermac (on 7th Ave. btw. 29+30th) is offering 8 cent mac and cheese through the 8coupons website, and Energy Kitchen (not to be confused with Pump Energy Food) is offering a free bison cheesesteak, thai chicken wrap, or chicken burger with the purchase of any drink between Noon and 2pm. Energy Kitchen has three locations just out of the ML boundaries… one on 2nd Ave. btw. 57+58th, one on 41st and 2nd Ave., and one on 47th btw. 9+10th Aves. [Eater, 8Coupons, Eater]

Late Addition: According to this website there will also be free Cinnabon bites in Rock Center from 5 to 8 p.m.

Free Coffee Alert: Tomorrow (4/14) from 4-7pm Oren's Daily Roast will be giving away free small cups of coffee at all their locations.  There are three in Midtown: one on 3rd & 51st, and two in the Grand Central Terminal. [TONY Feed Blog]

Free Gelato Confirmation: Wanted to clear up any confusion in the comments about today's free gelato giveaway at Golosi, the new pizza by the inch place on Park Ave. btw. 41+42nd (in the old Yolato space.) From the PR guy: "Customers will get one free scoop of gelato of their choice with pizza purchase. The minimum pizza purchase is three inches." That's pretty clear, which is good considering the history this space has with free gelato giveaways. They open at 11 a.m.

Free Sample Alert: Sign of the Economic Apocalypse

DSC01507

Things have gotten so bad that even Magnolia Bakery (on 49th & 6th) has to resort to offering free samples to drum up business! Don’t ask me why I was in there… I didn’t buy anything, but I took a free sample of carrot cake. I’m not going to lie- their cupcakes may be mediocre but that carrot cake freebie was goooood.

Free Condiment Alert

A guy who owns a Midtown lunch truck is retiring and moving to Florida… so his condiments are up for grabs on Craigslist: “ALL BOTTLES ARE OPENED AND ARE NOT FULL* but this would be great for someone who owns a small restaurant or lunch truck, or just anyone who likes to add condiments to their food. I can give them out all together or individually. Please call me asap, you can pick them up in Midtown Manhattan at my apartment today.”  Amazing.  I’m kind of curious what truck this is. UPDATE: Who knew free condiments were so popular?  The post has already been deleted… (but just to prove I’m not crazy, a screenshot of the ad is after the jump)

Yushi Wants To Give You Free Conveyor Belt Sushi

You have to give Yushi (on 47th btw. Park+Lex) a bit of credit… although some of their stuff is a little overpriced, and healthy (read: flavorless) for my taste, I’m starting to like more and more of their offerings- and they are definitely trying. They are planning on opening their new conveyor belt to the public on Monday, but want to make sure they don’t suffer the same fate as Sakae Sushi (which was doomed by overpriced, mediocre food.)  They asked me to come try the new conveyor belt food, and give them feedback- but I don’t like taking free stuff from Midtown Lunch places. I will, however, take free food for my readers!  So I suggested they bring in some Midtown Lunchers for the free lunch “focus group”… and they agreed!

I know it’s late notice, but the free lunch is tomorrow (Thursday) at 12:30pm, and they’ve set aside 6 slots for Midtown Lunchers.  Available for lunch tomorrow?  Comment below why you should be chosen for the “focus group”, and you (and a guest) will be entered to win free conveyor belt lunch tomorrow at Yushi. (Make sure to include your email address so I can contact you.  It will not get published on the site.) The three winners will be contacted by 10 a.m. on Thursday morning. Please only enter if you will be available at 12:30pm tomorrow.

Free Oatmeal Alert: "Free Oatmeal , smoothie (and other Quaker goods) in Times Square right now."  Confirmed by Blondie who said they're giving out so much free stuff she has breakfast for the "rest of the week".  They're only there until 10:30a.m. so get it while the getting is good.  Freeloaders engage!

Free Peanut Butter Alert

In an attempt to rebuild our trust in peanut butter, the National Peanut Board is giving away a bunch of peanut products in Grand Central Terminal today from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Lunch’er Adam stopped by yesterday and sent in this report: “I got a free apple, free small container of peanut butter to dip pre-cut apples in (which I also got). Other items include peanut energy bars, peanut brittle bars, small packages of peanut M&Ms, and as many spoonful samples of Peanut Butter & Co. peanut butter as you can get away with.” Update: Blondie and Brownie also posted this report.

If You Could Say Something to the CEO of Quiznos, What Would it Be?

The complaints are still rolling in about the Quiznos free sub promotion, and they’ve issued this official response:

The response to the Quiznos Millions Subs Giveaway has been nothing short of overwhelming. That’s great, right? Right… but given that we have had over a million consumers respond in only three days, there are a handful of people who have reported some problem redeeming their free sandwich. If you’re one of them, please let us know right away by emailing millionsubs@quiznos.com. We’re working hard to address every issue very quickly.

They also sent me a personal email, asking if I’d be interested in a phone or e-mail interview with Quiznos’ CMO, Rebecca Steinfort.  According to the PR person “she’d love the opportunity to respond to you and your reader’s concerns regarding the Million Subs campaign.”  Oh yeah?  Are you sure you know what you’re getting into?  Alright… you heard them right.  Got something you’d like to say or ask the Quiznos CEO? Post it in the comments, and I’ll forward it along.
