Shake Shack Says Smoke Shack Might Come to Midtown This Summer

Some Shake Shack locations are now featuring the Smoke Shack, a $6.25 bacon cheeseburger with cherry pepper relish, bacon from Niman Ranch, and Shack Sauce. The burger is still living on the “Today’s Special” board, so don’t look for it on the large official menu. GrubStreet and A Hamburger Today posted earlier this week that the Smoke Shack is only available at the Madison Square Park and Upper East Side locations, so I hit up the park, because — of course — I had to get my hands on one asap! And, I can confirm this is one tasty burger.

Taksim Has A Great Lamb Appetizer, OK Falafel

I walk by Taksim all the time on my way to and from work, and a recent hankering for Mediterranean finally had me wandering in to check out what they had to offer. The menu mostly consisted of entrees and platters priced out of ML range, but the small sandwich section of the menu definitely had potential.

Let’s Help Bistro Truck Open Up Their Brick ‘n’ Mortar

A few months ago, there was speculation that Bistro Truck would be opening up a brick and mortar restaurant in the Lower East Side. Well, it’s all true and they’re almost ready, but they just need a little more financial support. So they launched a campaign on the Kickstarter-esque website Smallknot to help put the final touches on Rustic L.E.S. Pretty awesome rewards are promised for certain dollar amounts (like gift certificates to both the truck and the restaurant and private cooking lessons with Chef Yassir Raouli), but if they surpass their goal by 150% everybody who donated is invited to a lamb roast block party. You can watch a video about the campaign and make a donation at the smallknot website. I wonder how much it would cost to bring the truck back to Midtown?

Contributor Stalking (The “Moustache Cookie” Edition)

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (We’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

For his upcoming beer video, Brian interviewed Garrett Oliver at the Brooklyn Brewery, Donny has a new installment in his Foodaisance series at Butter + Love, Rachel lunched at Urban Lobster Shack, Blondie recapped Choice Streets, Brownie enjoyed the sheep’s milk dumplings at Kefi and I got a preview of Bed-Stuy’s newest bar.

Elsewhere in the ML universe… Zach launched a Food is the New Rock podcast, Jamie checked out a truck that serves hamburgers and banh mi sandwiches in Philly and Andrea reported on a sustainable food truck event called International Meats Local downtown at New Amsterdam Market this weekend.

A New Street Meat Event from the Vendy Awards: The folks at the Vendy Awards, our favorite street food focused day (aside from Street Meat Palooza, of course), will be hosting the International Meats Local, a brand new event this coming Sunday, May 6 from 12:30-2:30 at the New Amsterdam Market. Five previous nominated food carts (including ML favorite Eggstravaganza) will be preparing their most popular dishes with humanely raised and locally sourced meats. Tickets are $20 ($30 gets you early admission) and includes a sample of all the dishes. You can find out more info and purchase tickets here.

Checking Out Urban Lobster Truck’s Linsane Roll

Last week we announced the exciting news that Urban Lobster Shack launched their new truck, which has been hitting up Midtown pretty regularly since. Although we pretty much know what to expect from their lobster rolls, one item on the truck menu stood out as unusual: the Linsane Asian lobster roll. An Asian lobster roll? All my favorite things! Clearly I had to try it.

Pizza by Certe’s Lafayette Slice Is Sticking Around for May

It’s a new month once again, but this time there’s no new slice for Pizza by Certe. April’s Lafayette slice proved so popular they are keeping it for May! Which is good news for me since somehow April slipped by without a trip over to try the thing. The slice consists of: Vidalia Onion Confit w/ Bourbon, Gruyere, Grana Padano, Fresh Mozzarella and Thyme. Yes, please!
