At Lunch Now: DAMN YOU TAIM MOBILE!

This is unbelievable. Yesterday Taim Mobile sold out of the sabich special while Chris H. was waiting on line (around 1pm), and just a few minutes ago they sold their last harissa falafel ball TO THE PERSON ON LINE IN FRONT OF ME. This injustice will not stand, man. Lesson learned. If you want one of Taim Mobile’s specials, get there early.

Little Morocco (aka Omar) is Back… Again!

It’s been a tumultuous year for Little Morocco (39th & 7th) and its original operator Omar. In July, they stopped serving kofta and shrimp. In August, the cart disappeared for a while. In September, we celebrated its return only to discover that Omar didn’t return with it and that the food had become much more ordinary. Omar would return only to leave in October to try out his own cart. He had trouble finding a good place to park and while he was gone it became apparent that Little Morocco without Omar wasn’t really Little Morocco at all. Fortunately, he has returned and now we can start 2011 with a bona fide Little Morocco once again in operation.

My Maki’s Make Your Own Sushi Coming in March

My Maki

Watch out East Side! We’re getting another new Asian joint, My Maki on 43rd between Lex+3rd. It’s a make your own sushi in the fast-casual style, similar to how Sensebowl and others work. You choose the base 10-piece roll, 5.50 for traditional Nori or 6.50 for soybean, select a main ingredient-all are under $3, get two free additional ingredients, outside toppings, and sauces. Or you can go with their signature rolls which are all under $10. I am looking forward to this sushi joint, it isn’t very often that you can choose the ingredients in your roll, nor is it often that those ingredients can include potato sticks and/or Doritos. I have at least three combinations already on my list to try when they open their doors in March.

Half Off AJ Maxwell’s Lunch Specials: It's been awhile since we mentioned the lunch specials at A.J. Maxwell's (on 48th btw. 5+6th) but apparently they're still doing them.  And if you want to pay half price today's In Bundles deal features $12 at A.J. Maxwell's for just $6 (plus the deal lets you get fries as your side dish.)

Gothamist Lunch Quadrants Columbus Circle

Gothamist has just launched a new column called “Lunch Quadrant” that sounds right up our alley. They’ll pick a subway stop, and then tell you four places to have lunch within walking distance… 2 cheap spots (one sit down, one take out) and 2 pricier spots (one sit down, one take out.)  The first installment centers around Columbus Circle, where they recommend the Lunch Box (take out cheap on 9th Ave.), AQ Kafe (sit down cheap on Broadway), Bouchon Bakery (take out pricey in the Time Warner Center), and Nougatine (sit down pricey inside Jean Georges.)  Hard to disagree with any of those…

Half off Sullivan Street Bakery: This is waaaay out of bounds (on 47th btw. 10+11th), but totally worth the trek. Today's Groupon gets you $10 worth of stuff from Sullivan St. Bakery for just $5.

Your First Look at Dee Daa’s Balanced Thai Menu

Dee DaaThe other day I checked up on the new “Balanced Thai” place Dee Daa (44th btw 3rd+Lex) to see how they were coming along. The interior is getting close to ready, and if you’re lucky enough to find the door open, you can score a menu. The workers said the opening would be within the next two weeks.

Check out the menu after the jump.
