And… We’re Back: As you might have noticed, or not, ML was on hiatus on Friday (and by hiatus I mean a total and complete meltdown!)  We're back up and running now, so there's no reason to be mad.  (If anything you should thank us... you probably got a lot more work done on Friday.)  Sadly we did lose some comments and forum posts, so if you notice things that you posted are missing we're sincerely sorry. Also if you signed up for an account at any point during the past week, it is possible you might have to re-register.

Grill Em All’s Victory Lap Will Go Through Duke’s

Grill Em All TruckGrill Em All, the Los Angeles based burger truck who won the Great Food Truck Race, is returning to New York city next week for a whirlwind tour.  They’ll be popping up all over serving their signature burgers and truffle fries.  The schedule was released yesterday and there’s one Midtown stop being planned during lunch…  next Friday (October 22nd) they’ll be at Duke’s (on 37th and 3rd Ave) from Noon to 2pm.  Super curious to check it out?  You can make reservations in advance on Open Table.

Flatiron Lunch: Limelight Grill Serves Up a Great Sausage Hero

Now that Downtown has its very own section of the site, what are we going to post on Fridays? Answer… how about a column devoted to those lunches just south of the ML boundaries. Every week we post about a lunch in Murray Hill south, Gramercy, Flatiron, and everything in between… or to make it easy: Flatiron Lunch.

If you blink, you might miss those few nice days we’ve had between the hailstorms, tornados and nor’easters, but they are there. With that in mind, let’s ignore the downpour (and the coldsnap) and talk about some place to go on the next sunny lunch hour. The Limelight Grill- inside the former church, former nightclub that became a mall recently- offers a menu full of food grilled on an open flame. If that doesn’t take you back to the best of summer, I don’t know what will.

We’ve only got a couple weeks left, so check out the options after the jump.

Ma Peche Adds New $10 Sandwiches to Dining Room Menu

Ma Peche entranceJust got word of a big lunch menu change over at Ma Peche (aka Momofuku Midtown, on 56th btw. 5+6th).  Cheap-o Midtown Lunchers are no longer relegated to just ordering off the $10 Midtown Lunch takeout menu.  They’ve added the banh mi maison and two new sandwiches to the regular restaurant’s lunch menu, and all three are only $10!  There’s a new fried shrimp sandwich with lettuce and a pickled ramp remoulade (think po’boy) and a beef sausage hero with cucumber, jalapeno, and mustard.  The two new sandwiches are not available in the upstairs bar area, or on the take out menu, but the restaurant hopes to offer both options soon.

Red Mango Moving to New Ktown Food Court

Walking down 32nd street the other day, I caught this moving sign in front of the old Red Mango space. Typically, I wouldn’t have thought anything of it – I never got on board with the frogurt craze – but the new address was familiar. 11 West 32nd street is the site of the Koreatown Food Court we reported on back in the spring. The initial word was that they hoped to be open by September or October. That could be any day now, although word on the street is that they’ll probably open early next month.

With FoodParc and Eataly open within 10 blocks, the whole food court scene has changed dramatically from the spring. Still, I’m pretty excited about the potential for some underrepresented Asian food to finally come to the area. Back in the spring speculation was that we might get some “Korean Pizza”, and I’m still holding out hope for some Vietnamese sandwiches.  Plus NYC Cravings’ brick and mortar will be in there.  But with the Korilla truck and Baorrito seemingly covering our Korean Taco needs, what else are you all hoping to see in the new food court?

Pop Burger Lounge Deal: It's not exactly in the Midtown Lunch price range, but if you like to drink during lunch this deal is pretty damn good... Pop Burger's lounge (on 58th btw. Mad+5th) is now open for lunch and with this coupon you can get 2 orders of Pop Burgers (3 sliders per order), an order of fries, an order of onions rings, and two liquor drinks for just $25.

I Wonder if I'll Still Like Pho 32 When I Get Back From Vietnam

IMG00895.jpg

The beginning of my search for Vietnamese food ahead of my upcoming trip to Asia coincided with the rainy days we had over the last few weeks. With the early onset of soup weather, I’ve found myself at Pho 32 a lot lately. The Koreatown soup station has been mentioned many times here and I’ve written about it, but it’s never gotten the proper Midtown Lunch treatment.

With fall here, it’s just about the right time to start looking at the area soup options, so check out Pho 32’s offerings after the jump.

The Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck Has Returned!

DSC00142
After a series of unfortunate events, including an operation for Chef Samir and a bad burn for his sous chef, the Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck is back in action. When I saw the good news on the ML Twitter Tracker at lunchtime yesterday I knew exactly where I was headed for lunch.

Your First Look at Korilla Truck Tacos, Launching Monday

Korilla BBQ Truck

Earlier this week we let you know that the Korilla Korean BBQ truck would be holding a public launch party and true to their word Kum Gang San was packed last night with throngs of freeloaders, food bloggers, and curious passers-by. Waiters delivered tray after tray of tacos, and despite the crowd, there were plenty to go around.  Naturally I stopped by to stuff my face, and find out more about Korilla’s planned launch today (incidentally they’ve pushed it back to Monday).

Taco porn, the menu, and more about Korilla’s future plans, after the jump.
