MomoMidtown (aka Ma Peche) (56th btw 5th+6th) is definitely a favorite in these parts, especially when you’re talking about the special Midtown Lunch menu and/or a stop at the Milk Bar. Luckily for me, I got to do both last week, but since you already know all about the chicken banh mi I ate, I’ll skip straight to dessert: the newest cake truffle being offered… pretzel.
If you aren’t already reading the forums, you should be. It’s a great place to get lunch inspiration from your fellow lunch’ers. During my recent Kati Roll Krawl, I missed checking out the 39th street Desi Truck’s offerings because they weren’t out that day. Maple and Sausage Gravy Waffles Are Baaaaack: On the ML Twitter Tracker this AM: Papa Perrone is on 55th with sausage and peppers, Comme Ci Comme Ca is on 38th, Uncle Gussy's is on 51st with pork chops and lemon potatoes, Schnitzel & Things is on 52nd, Korilla is on 55th, Rickshaw is on 50th, Eggstravaganza is on 52nd, Joyride is on 52nd, and Wafels and Dinges is on 46th with their maple and sausage gravy waffles.

It took them well over a month, but Food Gallery 32 has finally scrapped their much maligned ordering system. The single ordering counter for all the different stations was easily the biggest complaint people had about the food court, and clearly they heard the chatter. The upside is you no longer have to walk back and forth between the different stations and the ordering counter trying to remember what you wanted to order from the various menus. The downside? Now all the food court places will have to hire their own cashiers to take orders (hopefully they won’t raise prices!), and you’ll have to go to a separate cashier to order drinks from the station next to Red Mango.
I happened to walk by Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen last night, and noticed that they posted a sign stating that they’ve shut down their breakfast service. This is a darn shame, for as much as we’ve enjoyed their burgers; we’ve never had a chance to try their breakfast offerings. I guess we’ll have to stick with Tri Tip Grill or ‘wichcraft for gourmet breakfasts.

Blondie and Brownie were both in Greenpoint, enjoying a toasted coconut doughnut from Peter Pan, and a proscuitto and ricotta sandwich from Eastern District. Over Valentine’s Day Ultraclay made a standing rib roast (!?!), Donny had a great fish sandwich from Van Horn on Court St. in Brooklyn, and Chris H. finds a good bowl of jjajangmyeon at Guh Song in Flushing.
Around the rest of the ML Universe… Andrea finds some underground Chinese food in the FiDi, Jamie tries out the Thai food in Philly’s Reading Terminal Market, and I discover the Soup Nazi of Indian food in Los Angeles.

A photo of Herald Square back when the New York Herald was still there. I didn’t know about this ornate building, complete with green-glowing-eyed owls on the pediment. More to the point, if you look next to the curb in the center-right, you’ll see “Lunch Wagon No. 9” – 1908’s version of a food cart. (close up attached) I wonder what they served? Some things never change: attached also here is a letter from 1907 complaining about a lunch cart at 6th Ave and 35th st. – apparently the very one in the photo.

The Counter, a burger restaurant from SoCal, opened right smack in the center of Times Square back in December. Our very own Zach gave us a sneak peek of what we would be expecting from The Counter in LA. In his write-up he got 2 burgers where 1 of them he went crazytown with (roasted green chilies, grilled pineapple and onion strings?!) But how does the NYC version stack up- especially considering its Times Square location (surrounded by a whole host of TGIF type of restaurants.)
