Looks like they might be opening up a Chickpea from the lettering... not sure...
-
Confirmed that the old Eli's Deli location in the Citigroup will be a Chickpea. The sign is up.
-
Intriguing to me is it looks like there is also a Chickpea opening on 3rd avenue between 57th and 58th
-
there's also XPL, Yummy falafel, Kolette's kitchen, and 3 other carts slinging falafel within a 3 minute walk...
-
Yup, for whatever reason, I have two threads going. I mentioned the 3rd Ave location here:
-
I'm not sure that Kolette's always does falafel. They wanted to respect Yummy, Yummy across the street and not do falafel, but I've seen it advertised on their outdoor sign 3 times in the past month.
I personally was hoping for a Crisp around here. I enjoy their creative take on traditional falafel sandwiches.
The best bang for your buck is a platter from the XPL truck on 52nd.

Their first day is today. They were open before 9 and had muffins, pound cake, and bagels on the top of the counter. I'll have to stop in and see if they offer anything hot for breakfast.
-
I think Kolette's has been doing falafel as a "daily special" almost every day for a while now (every time I happen to glance at the sign, which is often). It's not much to write home about though even in comparison to Yummy--only thing going for it is the price point.

Has anyone tried the hummus at Chickpea or Kolette's? I love freshly made hummus. Taksim has a good one. Not impressed by it at Marrakesh.

I happened to see inside the old Eli's storefront in the Citigroup building this morning (to the right of Cucina).
I had noticed that work has been ongoing for the past few weeks, but now I see that the walls mention hummus and tahini, so I have to assume that there might be a middle eastern / falafel place coming to the storefront. It's a very shallow space, so middle eastern would work fine there.
I had originally thought that they were going to put a Baoguette there, but I guess not.
I had mentioned in the past that I would have like to have something like a Crisp or Maoz there, so whatever it is, I hope it's good and has reasonable prices.
