BREAKING: World Financial Center Food Truck Court Launching Monday

I’ve got to say I’m a little jealous of some of the new food options in Battery Park City, and now we all have more reason since the World Financial Center’s getting a food truck court. As we’ve all noticed, food trucks have been getting hassled in Midtown, and also in Soho and the Financial District so this will give them a place to park without fear of getting ticketed or asked to leave in the middle of lunch service. Brookfield Office Properties teamed up with the NYC Food Truck Association to make this happen, along with the Battery Park City Authority. And the best part? Trucks will be there from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through 2013. See a list of those participating after the jump. UPDATE: The schedule for next week’s up!

There are some new and old faces represented here on the food side:  Big D’s Grub Truck, Bongo Brothers, Eddie’s Pizza, Frites N Meats, Gorilla Cheese, Kimchi Taco, Mexico Blvd., Mexicue, Mike N Willie’s, Milk Truck, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Rickshaw Dumplings, Schnitzel & Things, Taim Mobile and Valducci’s Pizza.

And they didn’t forget the desserts with Andy’s Italian Ice, Coolhaus, Cupcake Crew, La Bella Torte, the Treats Truck and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream represented.

Speaking about the collaboration:

“The NYC Food Truck Association is committed to finding creative ways to incorporate food trucks into the fabric of NYC in a manner that supports local communities,” David Weber, founder and president of the New York City Food Truck Association, said in a press release. “We’re excited to be working with Brookfield to support our shared interests of serving of the tenants of the World Financial Center and area residents.”

And for once the buildings aren’t trying to kick the food trucks out, but asking them to park there.

“Brookfield is continually looking for ways to enliven our waterfront by bringing fine food, entertainment and amenities to the community. We’re excited to partner with the NYC Food Truck Association and Battery Park City Authority to offer a new type of dining experience to Lower Manhattan,” David Cheikin, Brookfield’s Vice President of Leasing said in the release.  “The introduction of the food truck court is another facet of the overall goal of making the World
Financial Center a professional, culinary and retail destination for all New Yorkers.”

Maybe they finally realized that Yushi, Caravelli’s Pizzeria and the couple of street meat carts nearby weren’t quite cutting it for lunch options. You’ll be able to find the revolving list of trucks outside of 4 World Financial Center at North End Ave. & Vesey St. Up to five trucks will be there each day.

So, what do you think lunchers of Battery Park City? Does this up your lunch game at all?

I hate this. I understand that the trucks will be at BPC on a revolving basis, but I fear that those of us in FiDi, but not near BPC, will end up shedding some lunch options.

In a near wasteland of food choices this should greatly increase things.

VERY happy to see this happen. People had better come out and support. This is good news!
