According to Twitter Coolhaus will be giving away free small scoops of holiday ice cream today with the purchase of hot cocoa, while supplies last. They suggest putting the scoop in the hot chocolate, which sounds like a great way to enjoy ice cream in this ridiculously cold weather! According to this, they’ll be in Midtown at 38th street between 5th & 6th avenues from 11am-5pm, but as always, we suggest you check the ML Twitter Tracker before heading out. Pretty sweet way to start the new year!

As an ardent lover of all things pumpkin, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try Coolhaus’ fall ice cream flavors. They other day day after missing out on the Mastercard Priceless deal, I consoled myself with a pumpkin ice cream chocolate chip cookie sandwich. The ice cream was dead on for pumpkin pie–just the right amount of cinnamon and spices. If they had their double chocolate cookies I totally would have gone with those (or at least one of those–you can actually mix and match your “floor” and “roof” cookies). At $6, it’s a pricey treat for sure, but if you love pumpkin pie and want to get your fix in midtown before T-Day, this is a tasty splurge. Their Dirty Mint Chip hot chocolate is next on my to-try list. Has anyone tried their hot chocolates?
With cold weather upon us (hello, Snowtober!), most of the Softees are snug in their depots until April. But Coolhaus is still on their streets and they’re packing hot chocolate in addition to special fall ice cream flavors including Bourbon Pecan Pie, Spiced Pumpkin Pie, & Sweet Potato with Marshmallow and pumpkin pie cookies. Besides their signature hot chocolate they will be debuting hot chocolates inspired by ice cream flavors including Dirty Mint Hot Chocolate, Sea Salt Caramel Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Chipotle Hot Chocolate and Nutella Hot Chocolate. Last week we casually mentioned Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck’s skyscraper challenge (it’s a $20, multi-layered, ice cream sandwich that they’ll give you for free if you can finish it by yourself.) And in what should be surprising to nobody, a Midtown Lunch’er stepped up to take on the beast. Congrats to Lunch’er Formz for being the “first ever New Yorker to take down the skyscraper”. Way to represent for the ML community! He was kind enough to send us a photo of the 4 story “building”.
I’ll admit that I was a little skeptical when I started reading about Coolhaus’ ice cream sandwiches. Sure, the reviews were great, and yes, it’s hard to find, but $5 for an ice cream sandwich? Do I look like I’m made of money here? Blondie’s endorsement tipped the scales and last week I decided to give this LA originated truck a look-see. Read more »
It might have taken a little longer than expected, but LA’s Coolhaus ice cream sandwich truck is officially open for business today. Sneak previews of what’ll be available have been around the city for the past few weeks; I was lucky enough to snap this Chocolate Chip with Strawberry ice cream sandwich at Marlow & Daughters. Like Melt Bakery’s sandwiches from Sweetery, it’s going to run you $5 per sandwich, but it is a pretty tasty treat. I don’t even really like strawberry ice cream and I gobbled this sandwich down. They’re hoping to snag a spot on 46th between 5th and 6th, but make sure to check their Twitter (@CoolhausNY) or the ML Twitter Tracker before heading out.
And that’s not the only ice cream sandwich news today…
Coolhaus Free This Weekend, Official Launch Imminent?: L.A.'s famous ice cream truck Coolhaus didn't launch on April 15th but they've teamed up with Firefox to give away ice cream sandwiches all weekend long. Today they're in Soho, tomorrow they'll be on 43rd and 6th, Sunday Union Sq., and Monday in on 24th & Madison (12-4pm each day). A lot of good that does us! But hopefully this means the truck will be launching soon.

A few weeks ago Zagat reported that Coolhaus, the famous L.A. ice cream sandwich truck (that Zach will personally vouch for), would be coming to New York City in April. Well it looks like the first of two trucks have officially arrived in New York, they’ve started a twitter account (@coolhausny), and they’re saying that April 15th is the official opening day. We’re ready!
