Free Steak With That Tuesday Salad?: Looking for a late (semi-healthy) lunch before heading over to check out the new Jacques Torres location in Rock Center? Tri Tip Grill has just launched a new Tuesday only special: order a large salad, and the tri tip topping is free (until 5pm).  We don't really endorse salads, but if you're going to order one I suppose it should come topped with free steak.

Tri Tip Also Does French Toast for Breakfast

Tri Tip

I like to start my day with breakfast, but some days I just don’t have the time to get some grub going before I get to work. Jeremiah’s post about Tri Tip’s new breakfast sandwich looked pretty awesome, so I decided to check out their breakfast offerings myself.

Tri Tip’s New Breakfast Sandwich is a Winner

As mentioned in the forums last week, Tri Tip Grill (in the Rockefeller Center Concourse) has recently opened for breakfast, including an egg sandwich featuring their trademark beef. This is great news for people who believe it’s never inappropriate to enjoy some medium-rare red meat. People like me.

Friday Tri Tip Slider Special: Looking for a late lunch? Tri Tip Grill in the Rock Center Concourse started a new Friday only slider special today:  3 sliders, melted cheese, caramelized onions, and your choice of red ranch or horseradish sauce for $7.99.  From the owner: "Cucina and Co does a slider Friday and they do very well-- but ours are tastier (and a better deal.)"  Gauntlet thrown.

Tri Tip is Great, Xie Xie is Gone: The New York Times has discovered something that we've known for awhile... Tri Tip Grill, in the Rock Center Concourse, is kind of awesome!  Also in yesterday's paper, buried in FloFab's Off the Menu column, Xie Xie (on 9th Ave.) isn't temporarily closed.  It's closed closed, along with its neighbor Zanzibar.

Free Krispy Chicken Alert: We can't see choosing chicken over steak (or ordering a salad for that matter) but September is National Chicken Month (who knew?!) and to celebrate Tri Tip Grill will give you complimentary grilled or krispy chicken on top of any salad (just say "National Chicken Month" at the register.)  I suppose "free krispy chicken" does have a nice ring to it...

At Lunch Now: I Just Robbed Tri Tip Grill

I’m sure you’re all tired of hearing us harp about Tri-Tip Grill, but I simply had to shamelessly brag about show you guys what happens when you combine one of those Groupon-like daily deals with the Tuesday Tri-Tip feast. For a paltry $15, we just picked up $30 worth of food, split amongst 4 people ($3.75 per head), and came out with more food than any of us could finish. This included the whole Tri-Tip, an XL mashed potato, a large order of their onion straws, a side of roasted veggies, and a small order of french fries. Even at full price ($8 each) it wouldn’t have been a terrible deal.  For $4, it’s a straight up crime.   (And if for some reason you missed the two Tri Tip coupons we posted last week, you have nobody to blame but yourself!)

Tri Tip Grill’s Burrito Gives Chipotle a Run for its Money

Burrito Size Compare

Last week, perennial ML favorites, Tri Tip grill (in the Rock Center concourse), introduced a new burrito menu item. A chicken burrito will cost you $7.99, but for an additional dollar one can substitute tri-tip steak. Personally I’m a big fan of the tri-tip steak sandwiches, and the transition to Tex Mex is a welcome menu addendum. However, given the format of the burrito, it’s impossible not to draw parallels to that other chain burrito joint… the restaurant that shall not be named… the ‘C-word’. So how does the Tri-Tip burrito stack up?

Tri Tip Grill’s Tuesday Special is a Feast For 3

Tri Tip

Press releases from chains typically go right to the trash folder here at Midtown Lunch (unless free food is involved), but one from Rock Center Concourse darling Tri Tip Grill piqued our interest. On Tuesdays the restaurant is running a summer promotion- for $19.99 you get a whole “char-roasted tri tip” and an XL size of Red Mashers. The release claimed it feeds 5-6 people, and clearly this deal had to be put to the test.

Tri Tip Grill Doesn’t Tolerate Chewy Meat

If you’re paying under $10 for steak, you’d expect to get a not so tender piece here and there. But apparently Tri Tip Grill, the “best thing in [the] Rock Center” concourse, doesn’t operate like that. From Lunch’er “John”

Hey guys–

I normally don’t do anything like this but figured you might be interested since I remember reading a good review of the Tri Tip Grill in Rock Center about a month back (the reason I tried it in the first place, actually).

I work in the area and have gone a few times, just getting the usual thin-sliced sandwich, because after all who can resist a delicious steak sammich on fresh bread? Anyway, went this past Monday with a few friends and tried the Roadhouse Buck, which is thick-sliced with bleu cheese, fried onions, the whole deal. Looked awesome.

Only problem was, I got a super-tough piece of meat that was impossible to cut with a knife, let alone chew. Too lazy to bring it back but just not lazy enough to type for 30 seconds, I fired off an email saying just how sad it was to look at such a beautiful and sweet-smelling sandwich but not be able to eat it. I wasn’t even expecting a response back.

But instead I got this:
