Burrito Protest?: From @jesuisuba: "A group of people from Oaxaca in midtown just walked by carrying 'Love Thy Burrito' signs chanting something about hotdogs." Uh, we would love your burritos if they bore even the slightest resemblance to the phenomenal cuisine of the state to which your name claims to represent. Till then, blotched free burrito coupons and promotional protests ain't going to cut it. Pass the dirty water dog, please.

More on Oaxaca Grill and Izakaya Moku

The Village Voice seems to be in Midtown a lot these days… on Tuesday Robert Sietsema posted a not terrible review of Oaxaca Grill (even though “there’s zero Oaxacan about the menu”), and in yesterday’s issue of the paper Sarah DiGregorio reviewed the newly opened Izakaya Moku on 32nd btw. B’way+5th.  From her review you don’t really get a sense of what the place might be like for lunch, but it sounds like the food is pretty good.

Oaxaca Grill Rescinds Free Burrito Offer

Lunch’er Michael just checked in earlier today to us know that Oaxaca Grill (on 47th btw. Park+Lex) has stopped accepting those free burrito coupons we posted about last week: “Just went to Oaxaca for a free burrito with the online coupon (for the 5th time) and they are not accepting them anymore. I guess they learned not to post a coupon online that is good until the end of March. Back to Chipotle I go.” 5th time!?! Nicely done sir…

Free Burrito Alert: The burrito deals just keep on coming today... It didn't sound like Mamacita loved the newly opened Oaxaca Grill (on 47th btw. Park+Lex), but what better way to see for yourself than with a free burrito. It looks like you can print out a free burrito coupon on their website, good from now through March. [via Eater]

Oaxaca (Wa Ha Ka) Grill (on 47th btw. Park+Lex) opened its doors yesterday and as the official Mexican food correspondent I was right there in line with all you munchers, I mean lunchers ready to sink my teeth into a hot chubby burrito. Are my standards for a burrito high? Por supuesto. Are my standards for “NYC burrito” high? No senor. I know burritos in NY are never going to compare with abuelita’s cooking. I try to avoid being that obnoxious person that always says ad nauseam, “Mexican food is so much better in California.” I’ll leave all that gloating to Zach now that he’s on the west coast. I went to Oaxaca Grill simply to find out if they had a good burrito at a good price that any typical ML luncher would enjoy. So what did I think? Well, I think Zach might have been somewhat right when he said, “Another day… another Chipotle knock off.”

Take a look after the jump….

Oaxaca Grill Grand Opening is Today

A quick reminder that Oaxaca (Wa Ha Ka) Grill (on 47th btw. Park+Lex) is opening today. Though the menu screams out more Chipotle then Oaxacan cuisine I’m still temped to try their filet mignon burrito. Early adopters give us your opinion in the comments, and I’ll see you in line!

Oaxaca Mexican Grill Opening Monday: Got this email from Lunch'er "Mike" yesterday afternoon: "Just walked by Oaxaca Mexican Grill (on 47th btw. Lex+Park) and the door was open so I walked in. They are officially opening on Monday and the woman behind the counter gave me a menu and a free coupon for a burrito. Place looks like it is going to be good."

Oaxaca (Wa Ha Ka) Mexican Grill Menu Reveal

Another day… another Chipotle knock off.  Oaxaca Grill, whose sign appeared a few weeks ago on 47th btw. Park+Lex, is hoping to open in just a few weeks and their menu is unsurprisingly similar to Chipotle (down to the insane calorie ranges!) There are a few notable differences though.  Clearly Oaxaca is slightly more upscale, with options like filet mignon and beef brisket.  They also have two pork options (grilled and pulled), and offer a mini burrito (10″ tortilla, instead of 12″) for those who find a full size burrito too much.  (Who are these crazy people!?!)

Check out the menu for yourself after the jump…

Oaxaca (Wa Ha Ka) Mexican Grill Opening in January

Chipotle… Qdoba… Baja Fresh… and now this.  Signage has gone up next to Yushi, on 47th btw. Park+Lex, for a new place called Oaxaca (Wa Ha Ka) Mexican Grill.  I can’t seem to find much about this place online, although it may or may not have a location in San Francisco.  There is a website, and they already have Facebook and Twitter accounts (natch), but none of them have any useful info.  Oaxaca is known for their various moles, and grasshopper tacos- although I’m not holding out hope that some new Midtown fast food chain is bringing the real deal for less than $10.  Anybody heard of this place before?  Info is welcome in the comments…  in the meantime, the rest of us will just sit here mildly interested. (Thanks to Lunch’er “Yelena” for the photo.)
