Free Cold Stone Alert: Today from 5-8pm Cold Stone Creamery will be giving out free 3oz portions of Kate's Creation (an apple pie flavored ice cream) to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation (so I guess technically it's not free, if you have a soul.) In Midtown there are two Cold Stones, one on 42nd btw. 7+8th, and one on 9th Ave. btw. 50+51st.

Free Ice Cream Alert: Thanks to Lunch'er HollyDiver for pointing this one out in the Forums... Carvel is giving away free Swiss Miss hand dipped ice cream all day long today. There are a few Carvels in the area- but if last year's promotion is any indication, the only one participating is in 1 Penn Plaza. Can any freeloaders confirm?

In honor of tonight’s premiere of Top Chef Just Desserts, Bravo is going all out today offering free desserts all over the city. You can visit participating locations from 1-3pm today (a full list is here) or you can follow their truck around- which we’re hearing is on 50th btw. 6+7th right now giving out ice cream, cupcakes, Godiva, and Momofuku compost cookies. Free Smoothie Alert: Just got word that 4Food (on Mad+40th) is open this morning and giving away a free smoothie with the purchase of every breakfast sandwich up until 11am. We're not normally ones to go for smoothies, but their dirt smoothie did get high marks from a few of Midtown Lunch'ers who scored the preview last week. (And it's free.)

According to Grub Street starting at Noon today the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck will be driving around Manhattan today giving away free ice cream to anybody who has signed up to be a member of Gilt City (whatever that is.) Van Leeuwen has had trouble parking here in the past, so there’s no guarantee they’ll show up in Midtown at all- but just in case, we’ve added Gilt City to our Twitter Tracker for the day so you can follow the trail of free ice cream. Earlier this year midtown lunchers celebrated International Waffle Day at Wafels & Dinges with the wearing o’ the yellow in honor of the Belgian flag. Well, today in honor of National Waffle Day the Wafels & Dinges Truck has more ways for you to enjoy free waffles… W & D is inviting any child – or anyone who draws like a child (that’d be me & you, dear reader)– to create pictures of wafels or the Wafels & Dinges truck, which will be then decorated with the artwork. Anyone submitting a picture will receive a free wafel, regardless of their artistic talent. For the non-artists, anyone who buys something from Wafels & Dinges on National Waffle Day will have their name entered into a raffle for wafel-themed prizes.
