Celebrate National Waffle Day at the Wafels and Dinges Truck

Wafels & Dinges

Earlier this year midtown lunchers celebrated International Waffle Day at Wafels & Dinges with the wearing o’ the yellow in honor of the Belgian flag. Well, today in honor of National Waffle Day the Wafels & Dinges Truck has more ways for you to enjoy free waffles… W & D is inviting any child – or anyone who draws like a child (that’d be me & you, dear reader)– to create pictures of wafels or the Wafels & Dinges truck, which will be then decorated with the artwork. Anyone submitting a picture will receive a free wafel, regardless of their artistic talent. For the non-artists, anyone who buys something from Wafels & Dinges on National Waffle Day will have their name entered into a raffle for wafel-themed prizes.

But wait… there’s more.

To cap things off the truck will be holding their first ever pageant to crown Miss Wafel and Mister Wafel aka New York’s biggest Belgian waffle fans. The contest will take place from 1 to 2pm on 52nd btw Lex+3rd, and contestants will be judged on the following:

1. Presentations expressing why they should be named Miss Wafel or Mister Wafel

2. Knowledge of wafels and the country of Belgium (trivia contest)

3. Explanation of “What I Like to Do with My Dinges”

4. A Dinges Skills Competition (wafel decorating with toppings, you best know your Spekuloos).

The Miss Wafel and Mister Wafel winners get a Belgian Wafel Passport (entitling them to a year of free wafels), and a $500 donation will be made to a charity of their choice.

Clearly it’s going to be a fun day at the Wafels and Dinges Truck… provided the rain doesn’t screw it all up.  Make sure you check their Twitter account for updates before heading out.
