Midtown Lunch

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (They’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Blondie was at the Doughnut Plant in Chelsea over the weekend where she discovered a new oatmeal doughnut,  Ultraclay was surprised by how much he liked Hanson Dry in Clinton Hill, and  Donny enjoyed the disco fries at the original Bill’s Bar & Burger in the Meatpacking District. Also, Brownie needs your help winning a pie contest (please vote for her!)

In the rest of the ML Universe… I used lent as an excuse to eat a bunch of fried seafood in Los Angeles, Jamie took a bus from Philly to Flushing where she ate at the notably awesome Friendship Shopping Plaza, and  Andrea is giving away a dinner for two at The Harrison ($120 value) over on our Downtown site.

Brownie discovered that Buttermilk Channel will substitute cheddar waffles for biscuits in their “Eggs Huntington”, while Blondie was home sick stuffing her face with Peter Pan doughnuts. Chris H. had a few decent dishes at Plein Sud, while Ultraclay visited the Cambodian Truck in Fort Greene, and Donny got photos of where the Big Gay Ice Cream sleeps for Serious Eats: New York.

Elsewhere in the ML Universe… Andrea found a great $10 bar pie near City Hall, Jamie ate chicken and waffles at IHOP in Phildelphia, and I found fresh baked Persian bread in West Los Angeles.

Brownie was busy drooling over DQ blizzards, while Blondie was busy cooking brown butter brownies out of Bon Appetit Mag. Ultraclay was in Barcelona, where he tried a sandwich that Mark Bittman called the best sandwich he’s ever had. Donny tried the expensive and small but delicious media noche from Court Street Grocers, Chris H. found the vegetarian food at Balaboosta surprisingly exciting.

Around the rest of the ML Universe… Andrea was excited to discover Crosby Connection sandwiches inside a Downtown chocolate shop, Jamie had a Reading Terminal Market Amish sandwich showdown over on the Philly site, and I ate sushi from a car wash in Los Angeles.

Blondie and Brownie were both in Greenpoint, enjoying a toasted coconut doughnut from Peter Pan, and a proscuitto and ricotta sandwich from Eastern District. Over Valentine’s Day Ultraclay made a standing rib roast (!?!), Donny had a great fish sandwich from Van Horn on Court St. in Brooklyn,  and Chris H. finds a good bowl of jjajangmyeon at Guh Song in Flushing.

Around the rest of the ML Universe… Andrea finds some underground Chinese food in the FiDi, Jamie tries out the Thai food in Philly’s Reading Terminal Market, and I discover the Soup Nazi of Indian food in Los Angeles.

Let’s face it – It’s only February, and we still have at least a month of cold weather left before we can put away the sweater, scarves and jackets. Bundling up is one way of beating the cold weather, but the contributors here at Midtown lunch like to reach for a hot bowl of soup to warm up. Donny got a behind the scenes look at Four and Twenty Blackbirds for Serious Eats, while Ultraclay was shooting the Donuts Are Forever party at Santos Party House.  Brownie had some tasty looking dim sum at East Harbor Seafood, while Blondie was on the UWS eating Shake Shack’s peanut butter and bacon burger.  And over the weekend Chris H was at Prince II in Flushing (perhaps for another SE write up?) while Jeremiah tried out Stone Park Cafe in Brooklyn over the weekend.

Around the rest of the ML Universe… Andrea had a pretty strange bowl of pork udon Downtown at Sun Cafe near City Hall, Jamie is a big fan of Schlesinger’s pastrami sandwich and pickle bar in Philly, and I delivered my latest edition of 7 Things to Hate About Lunch’ing in L.A. (on Valentine’s Day… because that’s how I do.)

Blondie had breakfast for dinner at Clinton St. Baking Company, while Brownie was enjoying a delicious looking $5 ground pork sandwich at Beet Thai in Park Slope. Chris H. continues his exploration of Flushing on Serious Eats: New York by eating a hot pot with live octopus, abalone, and lobster, and our newest contributor Donny posted a (food) porn video of chicken and waffles.

Elsewhere in the ML universe… Andrea finds a decent looking alternative to the Biriyani Cart downtown,  Jamie finds a delicious short rib sandwich at Cooperage in Philly,  and I get excited about a food truck that sells french fry burritos in Los Angeles.

Ultraclay went to a wedding in the Phillipines where he was treated to roast pig! Brownie gets excited that Feburary is pancake and hot chocolate month, while Blondie reminds everyone about the Meatball Slapdown tomorrow night at the Brooklyn Kitchen. Chris H. got to hang out with Kelly Choi at Bann, and our new man Donny had a tasty looking brunch at Peels.

In the rest of the Midtown Lunch universe… Andrea finds a pretty stellar burger at the Pearl St. Diner Downtown, Jamie found two amazing Vietnamese dishes at Pho Xe Lua Viet Thai in Philly, and I ate under $10 sashimi in seedy Downtown L.A. and lived to tell the tale! (It was actually kind of awesome.)

Chris H. travels to Flushing for some amazing looking Korean BBQ’d pork belly, while Ultraclay was shooting Questlove’s 40th birthday part at Brooklyn Bowl! Blondie and Brownie enjoyed the Shake Shack’s version of the shamrock shake (in honor of the Jets) this past weekend, and want to remind everybody that Choice Eats Early Bird Tickets are on sale today!

Around the rest of the ML Universe… Andrea tries the pozole at Toloache Taqueria downtown,  Jamie enjoys gluten free goodness at Philadelphia Chutney Co., and in Los Angeles I discover the magic that happens when you put shawarma and schnitzel in the same sandwich.

Ultraclay adapted a Fatty Cue recipe to make ribs in his slow cooker, Brownie was back at the Farm on Adderly and really liked the chocolate brioche with sea salt and butter (how could you not!?) while Blondie made her own cheese. Jeremiah liveblogged the Golden Globes on Sunday night and Chris H wonders why Pylos in the East Village doesn’t get more love after having a great meal there the night before.

Around the rest of the ML Universe… Andrea gets down and dirty with some mofongo at Tauro on Hudson, Jamie turns the Philadelphia site over to Lunch’er Morgan who tells about korean tacos in Philly, and I discover the joys of $4 Thai breakfast for lunch.
