Cer Te’s Uncle Sammie Sandwich vs. Uncle Sammie Pizza

Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5th+6th) debuted their special July sandwich, the Uncle Sammie, but it came with a twist: you could get it as a pizza over at Pizza by Cer Te (on 56th btw. Park+Lex). The Uncle Sammie consists of pulled BBQ chicken, grilled corn, green beans, and a bacon-potato puree and since this is the first time you can get a special as a sandwich or a slice, of course we had to see which is better.

Cer Te’s July “Uncle Sammie” Also Available in Pizza Form

After two months in a row of serving their soft crab shell crab sandwich, Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) is going back to brand new for their July sandwich of the month.  Meet the Uncle Sammie: Pulled BBQ Freebird Chicken, Grilled Local Corn, Thinly Sliced Farmers Green Beans and Penn-Dutch Bacon-Potato Purée ($8.95). Sounds pretty good… and there’s a twist!  It will also be available by the slice ($3.25) at Pizza by Cer Te (on 56th btw. Park+Lex).  You can try both starting today, and early adopters- let us know how it is in the comments.

Cer Te Brings Back Soft Shelled Crab Sandwich for May

DSC02657

It’s kind of crazy to think about it, but Cer Te has been making ML special sandwiches for over a year now (that’s 15+ sandwiches). So I suppose we can forgive them for recycling a sandwich once in awhile. Soft shelled crab season just kicked into high gear, so for the month of May Cer Te is bring back the soft shelled crab sandwich that they sold back in June of last year. It’s also tough to complain because the sandwich is freakin’ delicious. (Provided they make it fresh!) The sandwich is $8.95 and will be available starting today.

Cer Te’s Mr. Potatoskin is Like a Fried Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato

The end of the month usually involves 12 hour days and no lunch, but as I helped wrap up March, I found myself daydreaming about the next sandwich mutant in Cer Te’s (on 55th btw 5th+6th) Sandwich of the Month club! The Fall of Saigon was so wrongly-named, so unbelievable tasty I even got it twice. When I read about the April Sandwich, Mr. Potato Skin, I was immediately excited (potato skins are a close second to wings on my bar food list.) And then I saw Masto’s pictures, potato instead of bread?! Mind blown.

Who needs the double down when you’ve got Cer Te!  Earlier today we reported that Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) has started serving their new fried chicken monstrosity with potato skins instead of bread… and Lunch’er “Masto” has sent over the first photographic evidence of this curiosity.  He calls it “inspired” and early reports have been mostly positive.  Of course we’ll try it ourselves and give you the complete lowdown (uh… you know… for “work”) in the next few days.  In the meantime you can view the sandwich from every angle on Masto’s flickr stream.

Potato Skin Sandwich Hits the Cer Te Menu Today

New month means a new sandwich from our good friends at Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th), and the April special is a doozy. Behold “Mr. Potatoskin”: Chicken cutlet w/ bbq sauce sandwiched between two baked sea salt and vinegar potato skins stuffed with aged cheddar and apple wood smoked bacon. Served with sour cream and chives on the side (naturally). It’s available starting today for $8.95.

Does Today Seem Like a Lobster Roll Day?

I guess there is something about today’s gorgeous weather that screams lobster roll! (Well, that and the fact that it’s Lent.)  Both Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) and the Urban Lobster Shack (in the basement food court on 3rd btw. 49+50th) are reporting (via twitter) a larger than normal number of advance orders this morning.  In other words, if you want a lobster roll today you might want to get on it now…

The Fall of Saigon

Monday brought the oddly named new March Midtown Lunch sandwich at Cer Te, “The Fall of Saigon.” I’ll say it… the name’s no good. I don’t know what it should be called, but definitely not this. Maybe Hanoi Matthew instead? Or The Matthew? Or All That’s Missing is a Beer?

Whatever you call it, the thing is damn tasty.

ML’ers First Look at Cer Te’s (Unfortunately Named?) “The Fall of Saigon” Sandwich

The "Fall of Saigon"

Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) introduced their sandwich of the month for March yesterday, and unlike last month’s “Chubby Chinese Girl” (which was named after the blog of the same name), “The Fall of Saigon” has not been universally accepted.  Lunch’er “Masto” is a fan:

“I thought the Fall of Saigon tastes great. It’s buffalo chicken on something like a kaiser roll with lettuce, and julienne carrots and cucumber. Pretty far off from a banh mi flavor and texture wise, but I don’t think that was the point.”

But not everybody agrees.

Last Chance For Chubby Chinese Girl

Only two days left to score yourself a Chubby Chinese Girl from Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th). Next week they’ll debut their new March sandwich, the “Banh Mi Buffalo Sandwich”: Unbreaded on the bone chicken fried until the skin is crispy, then placed on the grill to cook through. Once cooked thorough, the meat will be stripped from bone and mixed in Frank’s Hot Sauce, clarified butter and a touch of honey, and a few jalapeno seeds (?!?)  This could be interesting.  The sandwich was submitted by Matthew, who got to test the thing out yesterday. UPDATE IN THE COMMENTS: You will still be able to get the Chubby Chinese Girl as one of Cer Te’s Thursday sandwich specials.
