Vendy Award Nominations Close on Friday: Speaking of vendors, you have two more days to nominate your favorite for inclusion in the 2009 Vendy Awards taking place September 26th at the Queens Museum of Art. (Tix still available here.) Normally this is where I'd casually suggest some of my favorite vendors... but I'm a judge this year so I have to remain impartial!  Don't let your favorite street cart go unrecognized. Nominate them here>>

In the ML Forums: Here's what lunchers are talking about in the forums today...

  • Friday is $10 eel day at Sakagura, but you have to get there super early [Midtown Eating]
  • Eating street food makes for a great date [Miscellaneous]
  • Looking for a cart near 55th and Lex that wasn't Street Meat Palooza'd [Midtown Eating]
  • Do they serve "blondie" beer at Rudy's on 9th Ave.? [Connections]
  • The Steak Truck's super fresh lettuce puts Shendy's to shame [Midtown Eating]

Free Burger FAIL: Just in case you didn't notice the retraction, there are no free Heartland Brewery coupons being handed out tomorrow morning at the NYC & Co. info booth. Freeloaders, disengage.

Man Seeking Coffee: If you're seriously into the java you should check out this site, run by a guy who shows more knowledge of coffee in one post than I have in my entire head.  His latest review: 3+ for the Intelligentsia coffee being brewed at Culture Espresso Bar (on 38th btw. 5+6th) [Man Seeking Coffee]

Free Ice Cream Alert: More free ice cream being given out by those Maxwell Medical massage people.  Same drill as before with the flyers, except today they'll be on the NW Corner of 41st and Madison from 12:30 to 2pm.

Pelau Reminder: Don't forget, today (and tomorrow) is pigeon peas pelau day at the Trini Paki Boys cart (on 43rd & 6th.) Today they made it with beef, tomorrow they're planning on chicken.

Miss Softee: We all know about Mister Softee, but did you know there is a "Miss Softee" who sells ice cream in Midtown?  She normally parks on 40th & 5th from about 1pm until 6:30pm and has"daily cone specials". If you'd like to stalk follow her, you can on Twitter (natch.)

Kathy on Tim Hortons: Speaking of our resident baked goods expert Kathy YL Chan, the Associated Press enlisted her to taste test a box of Tim Hortons doughnuts. Tough gig, but somebody had to do it!

Free Shrimp Chips Alert: Even though they've been open for nearly two weeks, Mantao Chinese Sandwiches' official grand opening is apparently today... and to celebrate they're giving away free shrimp chips with every order.  They also have free delivery now all the way to 7th Ave. (btw. 40th and 70th streets.)  235 East 53rd Street (btw. 2+3rd), 212-888-2490; website

Rachel Maddow is a Midtown Lunch’er: 10th Avenue is becoming quite the Mexican hotspot.  In addition to out of bounds Midtown Lunch faves Tehuitzingo (10th btw. 47+48th) and Tulcingo del Valle (on 10th btw. 46+47th), there is also La Rosita (on 47th btw. 10+11th) which according to Rachel Maddow makes the best sopes and tacos. Don't trust people who work for MSNBC?  Profiled Lunch'er Jamie is down with the place as well. (And they deliver.)
