At Lunch Now: Bluth’s Banana Stand is Packed (But Will Return Tomorrow)

See… there is money in the stand!!! The line at Bluth’s Frozen Banana Stand, which is parked across from Radio City, goes from the middle of 50th and 49th halfway down to 7th on 49th- which is kind of crazy since the chocolate dipped frozen bananas are FREE.  I didn’t spot any cast members, just a bunch of typical PR people who may or may not be sick of listening to people throw out Arrested Development references as they snag their frozen banana.

Can’t make it out there today?  Fear not!  The stand will be parked in Columbus Circle tomorrow (Tuesday) handing out more frozen bananas from Noon to 7pm

A close up of the stand is after the jump…

La Trattoria Serves a Great Grandma Slice and Chicken Parm

I like to try new restaurants, but for certain foods, I tend to stick to one place. Pizza is one of those foods, and for my lunch needs, Previti is the place to go. But sometimes you have to force yourself to try something new, so this week I stopped by La Trattoria (corner of 2nd Ave. + 45th St.)

Get your Bluth Bananas in Midtown on Monday!

If you’re an Arrested Development fan enough to put Bob Loblaw on retainer, then have we got news for you: to promote Arrested Development’s new Netflix-exclusive season, Arrested Development is bringing the Bluth’s Original Frozen Banana stand to NYC. Check them out catty-corner from Radio City Music Hall on Monday from 11am to 6pm – not too far from some of our favorite food spots in the 50s. Snag a frozen banana and see if you can spot Michael Cera looking awkward – which is basically just Michael Cera. Freeloaders and never-nudes, engage!

Korean Tacos and Sliders Are Back at Bann Next Door

In February, Bann Next Door, at 50th street between 8th and 9th avenues (in Worldwide Plaza), informed us that they were cutting their delicious Korean tacos and other fusion items, like sliders, from the menu. Well, apparently they got a lot of backlash for this move and are now bringing it all back! They’re more or less offering the same options as before (beef rib eye, chicken, spicy pork), but with a catch… tacos, sliders, and BBQ bento boxes are now $12 instead of the $8 or $9 they cost before.

Flatiron Lunch: Are We Getting Priced Out of Mad. Sq. Eats!?

Every Friday we go south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

Week one of Mad. Sq. Eats done. Three weeks remaining. Compared to last year, I took a more moderate approach to the festival. But I can’t say it was entirely self-control. Lack of choice, especially under $10, was a major factor. I should clarify further. Many of the return vendors continue to have great options. Mad Park News has a significant collection of the menus here. Metaphor/graffiti still offers $9 pork dumplings I enjoyed previously.

Phil’s Steaks’ Lil Jawn Hits Streets: Phil's Steaks' second truck, Lil Jawn, hit streets earlier this week without its wrapping, but today the truck makes its debut all dolled up. The 2012 Vendy winners for Rookie of the Year had it rough last month when their original truck was in an accident, so we're very happy to see these guys back on the streets. According to their twitter account they'll be on 52nd & 6th but you can check the ML twitter tracker before heading out!

The Steel Cart Serves Glorified Grilled Cheese

IMG_7890

As I approached 53rd and Park, on my way to check out the new Steel Cart, I saw a line halfway down the street. I was concerned because I didn’t have time to wait in a long line. And then I realized it belonged to King of Falafel and not the Steel Cart that’s started setting up two days a week next door…

Choice Streets Was An Opportunity to Try The New Rhong Tiam Truck (And More)

Village Voice gathered over 20 trucks on the pier of the Intrepid last night for Choice Streets and those lucky enough to have a ticket got to sample some of the goods. This year, lines proved to be a big problem. One of the reasons for the huge lines might have been the absence of some originaly scheduled food trucks. Four trucks that were on the program (Gorilla Cheese, The Squeeze, Phil’s Steaks, and the Jersey-based French Quarter) were missing in action. There was still lots of food to go around…
