A Little Rain Can’t Keep the 10th Annual Vendy Awards Down

The annual Vendy Awards commenced this past weekend with typical fanfare – the live bands played with gusto, the crowd happily munched on food and sipped beer & wine, a mob of volunteers ushered in order and cleanliness, and an eclectic gathering of vendors busted their ass and served some seriously amazing food. This could have been any Vendy award, other than the fact that this festival marked its 10 year anniversary, and that for the first time in this writer’s memory, Mother Nature paid a visit.

Freddy is Still the King of Falafel (And His Kofta isn’t Bad Either)

Even though I live in Queens and multiple people have raved about Freddy’s to me, I never went. Why? Because it takes two subways for me to get there. Now that I work in Midtown, I can just walk over and boom.

King of Falafel On Vacation Until November

Starting today, you may notice a void on 53rd and Park Avenue. The Midtown cart of Vendy Award-winning King of Falafel and Schwarma will be off the streets for the next few weeks for a much needed vacation. The original Astoria location will still be open, but you’ll have to get your falafel fill somewhere else in Midtown until they return on November 5. Even the King deserves a break!

If any of you have had the fortunate opportunity to eat Astoria’s King of Falafel, you understand what caused this massive line yesterday. I stopped by around 2:30 to see how Freddy was doing and the story behind the cart moving to 53rd and Park. I also wanted to score some falafel, of course!
