Uncle Gussy’s To Launch a Frozen Greek Yogurt Cart?

You may have noticed on Twitter this morning, that Uncle Gussy’s tweeted a picture of an awning that will just be one piece of their upcoming frozen Greek yogurt, ice cream, and sorbet cart. They have been testing out yogurt flavors and recipes for the last few months on the truck and plan to launch it in time for the sweltering summer weather. Brothers Nick and Franky, who were featured with their mother on our recent video, will operate the cart in conjunction with the big blue truck. Stay tuned for more details about location, launch date, and menu items.

Salume’s Return Brings Lower Panini Prices, Gelato To Times Square

I was kidding when I suggested that Salume‘s return to Times Square could mean lower, more ML-friendly prices. I mean, who actually lowers prices? Ask, and ye shall receive, I guess. While passing by this week, I stopped to inspect the menu, and their “real Italian panini” are definitely cheaper than last summer. That, in and of itself, is good news. Even better? They’re also serving gelato!

Shorty’s Mobile Arrives in Midtown: We told you on Monday that well-liked bar/Philly sandwich joint Shorty's would be launching a truck this week. Well, they are making their Midtown debut as we speak. According to their Twitter feed, they were planning to set up on 47th and Park starting at 11am this morning, but you'll probably want to check their feed again (or the ML Twitter Tracker) before heading out. Also they're offering a deal today that if you buy any sandwich, you get a card for a free pint of Shorty's Amber Ale (presumably only available at one of the storefronts). Early adopters, let us know how it is in the comments.

Get 50% Off OBAO: Ever since Obao opened 2 1/2 years ago on 53rd btw. 2+3rd we've always been fans.  Anna was a fan of their beef salad, and Rachel liked their Pho Bo, and now you can get either for half price by heading to our deals page: Get $30 worth of food from Obao for just $15.  The downsides?  The deal is only good after 2pm on weekdays, but can be used all weekend long.

Contributor Stalking (The “Outer Boroughs” edition)

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (We’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Rachel made a plea for Rick Bayless to bring Frontera Fresco to New York, Brian visited the Brooklyn and Kelso Breweries for his long-awaited beer episode, Donny cooked stewed lentils at home, Chris is back on the Flushing beat with a trip to Sura Chung for Serious Eats, Blondie went to The Bronx to find the best food in Yankee Stadium, Brownie celebrated the return of Wooly’s, the Vendy award winning shaved ice and I toured the street food on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens (along with Blondie and Donny).

Elsewhere in the ML universe… Jamie checked out the Mediterranean options at Baklava Cafe in Philly, Zach got the scoop on the new lunch menu at Chego in Los Angeles and Andrea pines for a proper burrito downtown.

New York Times Confirmed: Food Is The New Rock: Our fearless leader was quoted in today's New York Times dining section, not because of Midtown Lunch, but for his Tumblr side project (and new podcast) Food is the New Rock. The news hook for the article, which talks about food becoming a center piece at music festivals, is this weekend's Great GoogaMooga Festival. There's no mention of traditional festival fare like corn dogs, until Zach calls them "one of the greatest inventions of all time" at the end of the piece. Shocker!

I Want Domo Taco Truck To Be Better Than It Is

When I saw Lunch’er Mike’s report last month that the Domo Taco truck improved, I was stoked. Back in February, Brian wasn’t such a fan, which was disappointing for a Japanese food fan like myself.  But sometimes it takes a minute for a new establishment to get into a groove. When the truck hit up Midtown the other day, I was looking forward to give the truck a shot. Turns out my excitement may have been premature.

Get a 3-course Lunch TOMORROW for Just $1.25: $1.25????? Yes, $1.25!!!!! According to MadParkNews and the NYTimes, Millesime (on 29th St at Madison in the Carlton Hotel) is celebrating the reopening of an original 1904 entrance to the restaurant with prices from that era. Technically, this is a Flatiron Lunch (which we usually confine to Fridays) but for $1.25 how could we not!? First come, first served from 11:30am-2:00pm.  CORRECTION: This is happening tomorrow (Thursday, 5/17) not today as originally reported.

Dean & Deluca Quiche Is Good Breakfast For Lunch

File this one under breakfast for lunch. A while back, I wrote a post about breakfast sandwiches that are also great (and available!) for lunch, and the responses in the comments showcased that I’m definitely not the only one jonesing for eggs at noon. I realize I might get some flack for writing about the savory food at Dean & Deluca — we all know the sweets are worth the trip (hello, apple fritters!) — but this upscale spot can get pricy, often teetering over the ML price limit. Still, I really like the quiche at D&D.
